Just watched on Netflix and sobbed all the way through. It’s about a young man, Mats Steen, who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy and dies at the age of 25. His family were devastated but after he passed away they received an outpouring of messages from people around the world who played with Mats as his alter-ego “Ibelin Redmoore” in World of Warcraft and they realised his life had not been any where near as isolated as they’d feared.

Sounds amazing. My husband just flagged it for us to watch. Not sure I can handle it emotionally though.

There is a really lovely piece on it here:

Highly recommend! I did cry all the way through though. It's very creatively done . I think i cried so much because I kept thinking how simultaneously wonderful and heart breaking this film must be for both his family and his online friends. It brings him to life in a magical way.

My 19 yo son has duchenne and lives his life through gaming. Is it uplifting or will it break me?

@Roxbury I think it might show you the possibilities of your son's gaming life and maybe how you can talk about it.

That said, the gaming world changes all the time, so it may be different for your son.

I wonder if you could watch together?
