ITV crime drama DI Ray (www.digitalspy.com/tv/a42520296/di-ray-season-2-parminder-nagra-update/) has finally confirmed a release date for season two.
Parminder Nagra will return as DI Rachita Ray for the hit show's long-anticipated second season, which will premiere on Sunday, October 20.

DI Ray's first season premiered back in May 2022 (www.digitalspy.com/tv/a39897102/di-ray-gruesome-twist-episode-2/)
, following the titular detective as she investigated the murder of a high-profile criminal against a backdrop of systemic racism.

DONT READ BELOW IF HAVENT SEEN s1

The season concluded (www.digitalspy.com/tv/a39893021/di-ray-ending-explained-imran-killer/) with Rach uncovering who was behind the murder of Imran Aziz, before being suspended by the chief of police pending further investigation.

DI Ray was renewed for a second season (www.digitalspy.com/tv/a42070054/itv-confirms-di-ray-future-parminder-nagra/) in November 2022, with Nagra sharing in a statement at the time: "How lovely to have got the response that we did for series one.
"Thanks to our audience and to ITV and our amazing
talented producers Maya Sondhi, Jed Mercurio, Madonna Baptiste, Jimmy Mulville, we get to do it again. We look forward to taking you on another thrilling adventure!"

Season two will pick up two months after Rach's suspension, with the detective finding herself thrust back into homicide after a fatal drive-by shooting kills Frank Chapman, the head of a notorious local crime syndicate.

The offical synopsis continues: "DI Ray is in a race against time to uncover the truth before the Chapman family act out their revenge and an all-out gang war erupts onto the streets."

Other returning cast members include Gemma Whelan as DCI Kerry Henderson, Jamie Bamber as DI Martyn Hunter and Steve Oram as DS Clive Bottomley.

One cast member who won't be returning is Maanuv Thiara, whose character PS Tony Khatri died at the end of season one.

Just watching now. Late for me

But why isn't the other black policeman and Charlene (think that's her name) the butt of jokes if it a rasict chat as they aren't white but are in the same police group

Why only di Ray ?

So in the end, it was all a bit "they all lived happily ever after" (as far as was feasible), wasn't it?

daffodilandtulip · 30/10/2024 12:16

Well that was a cute little ending 🤨

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/10/2024 12:29

I thought i replied to this after I watched

Prob posted reply on a diff thread 😂

Soooo frank was a perv and abused girls

Amy shot him by accident and Dave (sexy dad) protects his daughter and finishes off frank

He blamed rav - poor rav - so innocent but equally trafficked a girl for her organs and more for sex

So deserved to die for that

Glad the racist super was caught

But

How did he know to go to the car to check his phone

If he was private number - did he start the group and add others

As no one would be able to add him

And

Clive set the ball in motion saying get off the group

But how did super know Clive had sent that as no one knew he was the secret number

Does that make sense ?

What makes him suddenly go to the car

But glad Ray has a bf and all worked out for her

We don’t need the formal recaps @Blondeshavemorefun yours are perfect!

duc748 · 30/10/2024 13:58

If I wanted to destroy an incriminating weapon, I think it'd be in the river, rather than leaving bits of it lying around on my own premises. But then, none of really looked like master criminals, did they?

I will watch it to the end (I've started so I'll finish) but it's turning into a bit of a hate watch and I've ended up shouting at the screen.

DI Ray is a mood hoovering muppet. She really is insufferable. All that charging in to things when she's been told not to. It doesn't just put her at risk it puts all her colleagues at risk too. She has no interpersonal skills at all. At one point she's going all mushy over the little girl who's just made her a bracelet then she gets a phone call and just runs off without a backward glance or a good bye or anything. Really cold and rude. Either it's meant to make a point or really poor writing.

When she was marching through the warehouse shouting for the deaf man? Then seemed to remember about 10 paces in that he couldn't hear and started shouting 'can you read my lips?' It was farcical! Does she think he'd got X-ray vision? Then he comes out from her right hand side some distance away answering her last question so maybe he did have X-ray vision.

Why was the mobile unlocked? Surely as a basic a criminal is going to have a PIN on their phone and even if he'd opened it for you it would lock after a certain length of time. She then responds to the baddy's text but no basic attempt to ensure she was responding in the same manner as the baddy (punctuation, grammar, style) and Rav didn't once think the message looked odd. Don't know why he then rang (other than for dramatic effect) because he couldn't hear so may as well have just continued texting.

Then my final pet hate in cop programmes is when I think they've slipped into Harry Potter and got a cloak of invisibility or something? All that sitting in cars supposedly under cover surveilling someone. On one occasion they took photos with a huge camera and no one seems to notice 2 people sat in a car on a street apparently doing nothing. Admittedly DI Ray squeaked 'they know we're here!' In surprise. Well of course they do . You're just sat across the road from them pointing a camera at them!,

And finally why is a DI out and about interviewing people etc? That's not their job. They should be back in the office directing operations. There's only limited circumstances when a DI would go out and interviewing isn't really their skill set. She is doing the DSs job.

But she wasn't pretending to be him in the end.
She said in the text 'it's Rachita Ray we've got Shiv in custody. (then something else I can't remember) Then 'this is your last chance:

CountTo10 · 31/10/2024 06:54

@purpleme12 Ah! As I said in a previous post I couldn't read the texts due to my eyesight. But that's even worse then. Ridiculous thing for a Police Officer to do. Whole thing was ridiculous.

I think just because DI Ray was the one who was being picked on basically. And it snowballs from there and people join in with it

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/11/2024 22:40

🥲

Maybe, also, just conceivably, that she's not exactly the warmest and most likeable person in the world, is she?

purpleme12 · 06/11/2024 23:04

There is that

I thought they made her like that purely in response to the problems she was having at work though, ie the problems at work started it off rather than the other way round.

But that's just my take

martinisforeveryone · 15/11/2024 13:05

I've skipped the thread because we watched episode one and two and then no more. I put it on the app this morning and it's taken us back to the majority of ep two again, so I've left it on as a refresher and will have to catch up and then go back and read the thread.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/11/2024 13:17

Hope you enjoy @martinisforeveryone

I did

Hope for a s3

Thanks @Blondeshavemorefun and yes, I did enjoy. There were a couple of plot holes that I choose to gloss over, but it was up my street 😀

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/11/2024 13:20

Always a few plot holes but generally good

Like how did the chief bad man know to go to his phone in car

OP posts:
martinisforeveryone · 16/11/2024 19:05

I can't be absolutely sure, but I thought one of the other Whatsapp group members messaged him a warning?

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/11/2024 19:22

But no one knew he was in the group as only had his number and was a burner phone

OP posts:
martinisforeveryone · 16/11/2024 21:41

It was a burner phone but they knew who it belonged to, they wouldn't have been posting what they did with a complete unknown in the group. All their jobs would've been at risk if they didn't think the group was a safe, secure space.

From TV Guide site

In the closing minutes of DI Ray series 2 episode 6, viewers saw DS Clive Bottomley warn a member of the chat that they'd been exposed. This caused two to leave the chat.
DI Ray confronted Beardsmore, requesting to seize his phone for evidence of the incriminating group chat. He immediately pulled rank, and refused to hand his phone over. In front of DCI Henderson, he accused them of "discreditable conduct".
Turning nasty, he also told DI Ray that he'd hand her a Reg 15 "following complaints about her conduct". A Regulation 15 notice is a way to inform a police officer that a complaint or conduct matter has been made and requires an investigation.
However, DCI Henderson did the right thing, calling for Beardsmore's arrest for malicious communications. He was subsequently suspended with immediate effect. And it looked like DCI Henderson could well replace him as Supt.
