The eight-part drama (on for 4w and 2 episodes on Monday at 9 and 930)

(https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/mr-loverman-bbc-trailer-newsupdate/), which is adapted from Bernardine Evaristo's novel of the same name, stars Lennie James as Barrington Jedidiah Walker, a 74-year-old Antiguan-born Londoner who is on the verge of coming out to his wife of 50 years so that he can spend
the rest of his days with his longtime soulmate and lover and best friend, Morris.

Tahj Miles (Marlon from death in paradise) plays Barry's 17-year-old grandson Daniel, who is about to head off to university. But despite his bright future, he's wrestling with some anxieties of his own.

"And Daniel, being someone who's got the world ahead of him, who's got so much potential, he's incredibly smart, level-headed, articulate, respectful, and his family know how good he is and how good he can really be, but that's just more expectations and more responsibilities on your shoulders... which can send you on a completely different stretch of life [if it all becomes too much]."

Miles is joined in the cast by Sharon D Clarke (Doctor Who, Holby City) as Barry's wife Carmel, Tamara Lawrance (Time (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/time-season-2-review/)) and Sharlene Whyte (Sherwood (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/sherwood-season-3-bbc-release-date/)
) as the couple's daughters, and Ariyon Bakare (His Dark Materials, Good Omens) as Morris, the real love of Barry's life.

Has anyone finished this??

ForeverTipsy · 12/11/2024 07:32

Yes, lots of us have! Shall we discuss inc spoilers?

PanAmHostess · 12/11/2024 18:07

I loved it. Was a bit confused at the end when Barry and morris went to that gathering. I think Barry just wanted Morris not that whole scene. I would have loved Carmel to find the man she had an affair with in the 90s !

@PanAmHostess there's another thread on this series somewhere, where it's discussed that perhaps after decades of Morris having to creep about and fo everything on Barry's terms and timeline, it was his turn to choose how they spend their time. I also saw it as a really hopeful message for future generations of gay black people.
