Just finished watching this with my child

We really enjoyed this

I couldn't tell what was going to happen next at all

And I really loved how they made Sunny just as much a part of the film as the other characters

Which channel is this on, sounds good?

purpleme12 · 11/10/2024 15:03

It's on Netflix

It’s wonderful, isn’t it? NPH is clearly having the time of his life. Amanda from Motherland as one of the baddies, and lovely Patrick Warburton as the narrator.

The supporting cast had cameos from so many fantastic actors - a brief section with Nathan Fillion, too… be still my foolish heart.

It is so good - we had read the books before it was made, but the tv adaptation is just as good!

Ahhh DD was little when we watched this (she's now 16 but still remembers it fondly) and agree it really is excellent quality tv. The production is fabulous it felt so gothicy at times and I love how utterly villainous the baddies were. And the counts disguises were so good.

I've not read the books but they are meant to be very good.

Probably up there amongst best tv ever made for kids (not too young obviously as it's a bit Shock at times)

I watched with my DSs and then they rewatched again on their own - so many fab characters, sets and plot twists. Must have been a huge budget as it all looked so good.
Would love to watch something with similar vibe but haven’t found anything anywhere near as good!

purpleme12 · 11/10/2024 22:51

I think Sunny was my favourite character

I just love how they made her larger than life even thought she was so young. She was just as important as the other characters

I thought this was great. Neil Patrick Harris as Olaf was just brilliant. Funny and terrifying in equal measure. I really liked all the henchmen as well, especially the man with hooks for hands.

purpleme12 · 11/10/2024 23:16

And no one could tell it was Olaf whenever he reappeared in disguise!! 😂😂

I loved this series. I was a massive fan of the books growing up.
I didn't enjoy the first film that was made with Jim Carey as count Olaf, so was pleased to enjoy the Netflix series.

What age are your kids when you watched it?

purpleme12 · 12/10/2024 07:47

My child is 10

It's a PG

Yes! So funny

I thought the one where he was a fisherman and the lady the kids stayed with fell in love with him was actually so sad - and the ending Blush

I also loved the Zoologist one.

And am I imagining it or did Moira Rose from Schitts Creek turn up in one?

The peril factor in every episode as so well done.

Agree Sunny was adorable

toastofthetown · 12/10/2024 08:04

I’ve been watching after a recent reread of the books. It’s good so far but a fair few changes I’m not sure why they made (just finished the Wide Window, and they left on their own for the mill, instead of being taken there).

UnhappyAndYouKnowIt · 13/10/2024 13:03

Sunny is my favourite, especially when she was re-did the headmaster's cv to make him look good 😂.

But Carmelita also cracked me up.
