I loved it, definitely had Fleabag vibes about it

Has anyone else watched it yet?

No but I just opened Netflix thanks to your post and I am so watching it next! Thank you :)

RedRobyn2021 · 27/09/2024 19:49

@HappyFitnessQueen enjoy! It was one of those shows I loved straight away

Kristen Bell is fantastic

Just started it (on episode 2) and I love it so far.

RedRobyn2021 · 27/09/2024 21:06

@Notonthestairs yes it's funny isn't it? That line at the dinner party about how Kristen Bell doesn't have a Jewish bone in her body really cracked me up

I've just finished episode 8. God it's so good, I love it! They're both brilliant in it, great chemistry. It's exactly the type of humour I love but it's also such an easy watch and even the smushy stuff is done so well that it doesn't feel sickly. I don't want to finish it😩

CaptainCrocs · 27/09/2024 22:18

Also really loving it. Just hoping it ends as well!

comedycentral · 27/09/2024 22:20

Going to comment on this so I remember to add to my watch list on Netflix- thank you!

Jumpersaurus · 27/09/2024 22:26

I binged it yesterday, such a good watch! I loved that they actually communicated with one another and the plot didn't rely on issues that could've been solved with a simple conversation.

HaveYouSeenRain · 28/09/2024 07:38

Watched 4 episodes so far and loving it. Great chemistry. I never want it to end. Haven’t seen such a lovely rom com series in ages.

realized it’s losely autobiographical: the writer Erin Foster has a podcast with her sister and is married to a Jewish man

Notonthestairs · 28/09/2024 08:28

I only managed to watch 2.5 episodes (endless interruptions from teenagers/dog/husband) but I thought they had great chemistry, both really likeable and as Jumpersaurus says, set up for a genuine conflict.

My one criticism would be the characterisation of their mothers, particularly his. But maybe that develops a bit.

I just need to get a quiet evening so I can binge the rest.

RedRobyn2021 · 28/09/2024 08:36

@Notonthestairs I loved his mother and the interaction between her and Joanne has me in stitches

The show is gold, let's hope it gets the figures and then we can look forward to a second season

Also don't you think it's crazy they don't make more rom-com films and television any more? They're so popular but so thin on the ground since the noughties

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 28/09/2024 08:48

Yes, I agree good Rom-coms are thin on the ground in comparison with 20/30 years ago.

I suppose Colin from Accounts qualifies as did the series made by Rose Matafeo, Starstruck.

jay55 · 28/09/2024 10:44

Totally loving it.
Seth Cohen dating Veronica Mars.
Love the brother and his wife.
All the parents. Everyone is so fun and fleshed out despite all the stereotypes.

Rollergirl11 · 28/09/2024 21:26

I’m going to have a look at this and report back. Love Colin from Accounts and Fleabag so have high hopes.

I've never heard of Colin from accounts until this thread, do you know where you can watch it in the U.K.? I saw it's Australian

I think it’s brilliant and so well done.
I don’t think it’s stereotypical - I think they have the American Jewish community just right. It’s brilliantly observed, written, grown up, romantic, they look gorgeous.

The culture is very different to the UK.
I was the Shitska (!)/Goy and I was very welcomed into the American Jewish side of the family.

But before I went to visit my financee (now DH) warned me that he didn’t know what their reaction was going to be to me/warning me it could be hostile. It wasn’t they were lovely to me.

I didn’t understand/it didn’t really compute what he was saying because of only living here but there it’s very unusual to marry ‘out’ of the faith.

Rollergirl11 · 29/09/2024 10:09

@RedRobyn2021 yes you can watch on Iplayer. It’s really really good. We have just finished watching the 2nd series which has just been released. 1st series better than the 2nd. Excellent writing and the humour is bang on for us. Really good characters.
