Only just noticed this and watched a couple of episodes. Great time warp entertainment. A couple of now famous faces were on. Probably not as random and uncurated as I might have thought at the time but would be interesting to hear what young people now would make of it, lol.

I loved Streetmate! Also loved God's Gift. Davina was my absolute girl crush as a teenager!

Ooh thanks, I'll add that to the list of 'junk to watch while OH is out'

x2boys · 23/09/2024 21:03

I watched a few of these a few months ago ,I loved it back in the day
I wonder how many if any went on to a relationship with each other ?

lololulu · 25/09/2024 20:07

Oh I loved that!!

changingchaali · 25/09/2024 20:14

I saw this. Bought back some great memories of my teen years.
I think they should bring it back

DoreenonTill8 · 25/09/2024 20:16

a couple of now famous faces who?! Who?! Off to Google!!

mewkins · 25/09/2024 22:36

Ah happy memories of watching this with my flatmates at uni.

NeelyOHara1 · 27/09/2024 19:01

Thanks for replies. So far, I recognised Don Gilet, who was a friend of a Streetmate, and googled an aspiring actress Streetmate, who does have a current acting career (can't remember her name though). The unfiltered 90's ness prob needs to come with a warning now, lol.

I knew someone who was on it! He had a reputation as a bit of a 'player' and I felt at the time that he really led his 'streetmate' on when he actually had no intention of seeing her again. I watched it back online not long ago with my DD (now the same age I was back in the day) and it was far more cringey than I remembered. I also remember watching the episode with my acquaintance on and thinking he came across as smooth and suave, whereas in fact he was clearly rather creepy!

Thanks@sockarefootwear re your "I also remember watching the episode with my acquaintance on and thinking he came across as smooth and suave, whereas in fact he was clearly rather creepy!" It's so interesting how perceptions have changed over the years. I would have probably thought smooth and suave too, lol. What did your daughter think?

sockarefootwear · 27/09/2024 21:59

Yes, I think perceptions have changed. DD thought he was slimey and was appalled that I was friends with someone like that (we were not close friends, and are not in touch now but at the time I classed him as a mate and if anything thought he was far cooler than me). There were a few things he did/said that she (correctly) classed as totally inappropriate

Thanks so much for the heads up about this show @NeelyOHara1

I have found it very nostalgic. I have loved looking at the high streets all buzzing, looking out for clothes I used to own. I have found some of the things people say on the show so funny!! And I love Davina so much!!

It’s made recovering from recent surgery much brighter!

NeelyOHara1 · 02/10/2024 19:33

@Cherryana that's good to hear. I think I might have seen a C&A still going in the background of one of them, lol.

Im just watching this, it's brilliant!! Great that some are famous now, Don Gilet and Joanna Bobin. Times have changed though, charging up to men and going are you single? Are you straight?

The 90,s were a simpler time I was a late teen through to my twenties.in the 90,s we weren't perpetually offeded if people misunderstood wether we fancied the same sex ,opposite sex most people just answered truthfully

kenyaswhiterefrigerator · 28/04/2025 14:18

I loved the first episode when the chap from Brighton said he didn’t choose the restaurant ‘they did’ meaning production

That would have been cut out nowadays but of course production chose it - they had to find a restaurant willing to be filmed in

It's not about being offended, It's interesting because that was probably quite new for the 1
90s, acknowledging other sexualities in a straightforward way.on TV even if not catering for them in the programme.

I'd be interested to see how it went with the manc couple. Couldn't work out if he was a rough diamond or a bit of a player. She (skinhead dancer) was gorgeous.
