Tv to watch as a family

I'm looking for new TV programmes to sit and watch together with DC. They have really enjoyed watching Masked singer, they like 1% club, celeb race across the world, enjoyed traitors. Any suggestions?
We have prime, Netflix and Disney+.

What age are they?

purpleme12 · 24/08/2024 18:15

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events

longdistanceclaraclara · 24/08/2024 18:18

Age?

SweetPeaPods · 24/08/2024 19:11

That would help, 10 and 13!

Father Ted

If any of you are interested in cooking/food, Masterchef and Great British Bake Off - lots of spin offs for both
Great British Sewing Bee, Great British Woodworker

Haven't watched it myself but lots of people seem to rate the Pottery Throwdown

We are a geeky family and when our children were around that age we worked through every series of Blake's 7 and The Prisoner. Blake's 7 might seem a bit creaky now but we absolutely loved it. The Prisoner is barking mad, but in my view has stood up well, not least because of the incomparable Patrick McGoohan. Won't be to everyone's tastes, though!

Classic films. We used to watch one as a family every Friday. Very happy memories. At that time we got them sent from Lovefilm on DVD. Nowadays we'd look for a decent streaming service and check Film4.

Funnily enough all of those programmes are the only ones my dd(16) will watch with me. Sorry I can't add any more!

Littletreefrog · 24/08/2024 21:22

Taskmaster (probably the bleeped version)
Robot Wars (dont know where you could find that these days)
Scrapheap Challenge
Gladiators
Wipeout

Roserunner · 24/08/2024 21:26

We've watched superstore, Fawlty towers, outnumbered, Friday night dinners, taskmaster, Brooklyn 99 and young Sheldon as a family and all enjoyed it. Out DC is 14.

Littletreefrog · 24/08/2024 21:29

Oh yes Young Sheldon is a great shout.

We all watch catchphrase and wheel of fortune. The Simpsons. Futurama. Other than that just marvel movies

SplendidPendips · 25/08/2024 18:08

Mine are the same ages as yours and enjoy the programmes you have mentioned. They've also loved:

Ghosts (UK version),
Sort Your Life Out (Stacey Solomon), Survivor (the UK series with Joel something or other presenting)
Masterchef and Bake Off
Great Pottery Throw Down
Man vs Bee (Netflix, Rowan Atkinson)

Next, I am going to try them on Death in Paradise as that's recommended a lot, and His Dark Materials.

PolaroidPrincess · 25/08/2024 19:16

Percy Jackson
Death in Paradise

They watched a repeat of Would I Lie to You the other day and loved it. Mine are similar ages and like all the programmes you’ve mentioned.
They’ve also liked the relatively recent Poirot film adaptations, Death on the Nile etc. They love a murder mystery.

TheChosenTwo · 26/08/2024 00:51

Currently enjoying the first series of celebrity race around the world with ds(12).
I prefer to find stuff that we can download or record things so we don’t have to watch adverts about erectile dysfunction or sex toys even before watershed. Sure, sex is a healthy normal part of life but still, if feels inappropriate!

Strokethefurrywall · 26/08/2024 02:00

Older series which are good are Merlin and primeval.
