Alone after break up - what to watch

lionobserving · 24/08/2024 15:51

In the very early stage of a break up, and DS is with ex this weekend. I've been non-stop and keeping busy, but this weekend I just want to mope.

Looking for a series or something I can really get stuck into.

Not into too much action, sci fi or period dramas. I like crime, mystery or even just easy watch trashy stuff - just anything to just really lose myself in for the weekend.

What's your best binge watch series to keep me company this weekend, please?!

On IPlayer I recently enjoyed Flack (drama/ comedy) about a lady who works in PR and has to fix famous people's problems. Binged that in about 2 days.

Also on IPlayer was crime drama, We Hunt Together which was equally as good and bingeable.

Currently watching Marcella on Netflix which I would say fits into the crime drama/thriller category. Easily watchable but I would probably watch earlier in the day rather than later at night on my own (but I may just be a scaredy cat 😆).

Oh and of course if you're into medical dramas then Greys Anatomy is classic (although gets weaker as the seasons go on), but New Amsterdam, and The Good Doctor are both good too. But none of them are as good as my absolute favourite of all time....

House 🥰🥰🥰

Nothing and no one beats HOUSE besides, possibly, ER.

Those are impossibly high standard dramas to live up to.

ladybirddotty · 24/08/2024 19:15

Oh and just seen above about Detectorists! Initially it took me a good ten minutes or so before I settled into it but turned out to be a quite a comforting show

If you have never watched sopranos, watch that it's got everything

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 24/08/2024 19:40

Lucifer/vampire diaries for engrossed trashy watching.

Below Deck (down under for excellent eye candy). Great watching of all series.

Survivor - love getting into it and seeing who goes.
Traitors US was great too.

cheapskatemum · 24/08/2024 21:06

I have enjoyed:
Virgin River
Mad Men
Chesapeake Shores
The Detectorists
Endeavour

I'm currently watching Inspector George Gently

Based on this thread, I'll be watching Ted Lasso next!

Binge the whole of Line of Duty on iPlayer. And Slow Horses if you've got Apple.

grassyknees · 24/08/2024 21:30

Bonus Family on Netflix! Four seasons to bring you in 😀

Candlesandmatches · 24/08/2024 21:40

I am working my way through all the Poirots. Similar situation to you, except my teens are out a lot or in their rooms.
there are about 13 series

lionobserving · 24/08/2024 21:45

Thanks so much all. Me and Ted Lasso have had a great day together. Will mix it up with some of the other suggestions tomorrow, with something else to lose myself in. Really helped an otherwise pretty sad weekend Smile

Greys anatomy got me through an awful break up a few years ago. It made me laugh and cry which really helped get it out, plus it's compelling so the hours fly by. Sending you love.

alrightluv · 24/08/2024 22:18

I'm glad Ted and the gang helped. I love so many characters on there.

Beamur · 24/08/2024 22:21

Slow Horses

ACatCalledPuss · 24/08/2024 22:33

Jane the Virgin
One Day
Narcos Mexico

I’ve been living under a rock for years and years as I’ve only just discovered Grey’s Anatomy. Great binge watching and lots of series!

Ted Lasso is good too for a lighter, more comedy vibe.

Emily in Paris is an easy watch.

Came here to see this - this got me through being dumped while pregnant - man eye candy is great x

Oh! Question about Line of Duty!

Is the last season actually good to watch? DS said it was disappointing and I usually trust his judgement. So I've held back from watching the last season.

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 24/08/2024 22:52

Before it was cancelled I used to watch Ibiza weekender/magaluf weekender obessesively. I think it was on itv. I was just fascinated, it reminded me of being at university.

chattyness · 24/08/2024 22:54

I've been living under a rock and just discovered Six Feet Under and I love it.
I like comedy to get me through hard times and two shows I never liked before but found again when I was at rock bottom were Kat & Kim and Miranda.I hated both when they aired originally, but they were suddenly the best shows ever. Also Mike & Molly, I didn't expect to like it and it made me laugh so much which I surely needed.
Editing to add if you download the tube app from Amazon (it's free) there's an excellent series called Outrageous Fortunes it's utterly brilliant.

Ahh to have pleasures like that, hidden gem series, so many seasons to consume.

Actually if you can afford it, you can block the ex, quit your job, send everyone a text that you're leaving for Bali, turn your phone to Do Not Disturb, download all the delivery apps, get under the duvet, draw all the curtains, turn on GA and not come out until end of January when most of the winter is over. There's that many series🤣

But if you do that, wait for a while and start the same week as the clocks go back is my advice!

I enjoyed the revelation at the end. Not the most flash bang whallop finale, but subtle and unexpected. Definite plot holes, but I think that was inevitable. I can forgive everything except the Morse Code.

And Fisk! It's an absolute hoot. And if you like Catherine Tate Big School on BBC is good. I adore Frances de la Tour she is literally my dream headteacher in this show.
Also Death in Paradise if you like detective shows, I swear it is a massive parody rather than a real detective/ police procedural. It is lovely spotting all the aging and obscure celebs. Haley actual Mills was in one episode!
And because of institional racism in the acting world the black actors are mostly bloody awesome which makes it hard to work out the actual plotlines/murderer because you just buy their story.
