Re watching original gossip girl Dan Humphrey is not poor. His family is not poor.

I watched it when really I was very young and felt an awful for Rufus,Dan and little J but why are far from poor.

Too schooling, amazing home and does Rufus even have a job?

Rufus is ex 90’s pop star, and gave up to be around for the kids - he explains it in later series. So no job, just hanging out making dinner in cool loft apartment. Enough $$$ to pay the school fees.

As the PP has already said, it's all relative. Chuck, Blair etc are horrified that someone would live in Brooklyn. They're uber-rich. He's not poor by any stretch but he's not like them.

If he was really, genuinely poor then he wouldn't be at that school and/or ever hang out with the others...

@Searchingforthelight The scholarship is mentioned when they organise the pool party at the school and they are all up for expulsion. Rufus does also repeatedly mention school fees so I think it's not a full scholarship.

Worth a rewatch. I was 7 when I watched it (blame my two older sisters who I watched it with) and I remember thinking they are so poor how awful for them but I face they are a so much richer than I will ever be 😂.

100 percent they are poor compared to the elite. Just really shows the way the elite are out of touch

What gets me is how rich he is in You. I know it’s not the same character. I can’t remember his name in You. But how on earth does he just start again in London and hang out with the elite?
