For anyone who hasn't seen this before - it's a fascinating, long-term study of a group of children born around 2000 being done by a team working with Prof. Robert Winston. This is the latest instalment, focussing on how children first become aware of social distinctions like class and race and also looking at their first day at school.

I'd like to see the 7up kids again. Do you remember them? I know a few dropped off the scene, but they would be in their 40s now. Looking forward to seeing this tonight as well.

I think they'd be in their 50s, in fact. The last one was sad, as a number were having very difficult lives, middle-aged crises etc.

didnt they do another one where the kids would be 22 this month? i think they did as they were born around the same time as me. maybe im imagening it?

Just googled, said 7 up started in 1964 so that would mean they would be 42 next year and maybe there'll be a programme?

As far as I know, my friend's uncle directed the 7Up series. Don't know if more are planned though.

will be watching! ds was born at the same time as all the children featured and i find it fascinating to watch and compare etc!!! Cant wait, will snuggle in bed with chocolate and big glass of milk!!!!!!

Oh I'm obviously in the minority - I don't like this programme AT ALL. They never tell me what I want to know about the experiments they do, and it just leaves me feeling frustrated. Plus I can't imagine why anyone would subject themselves or their children to that sort of intrusion.

Ds1 was born in 2000. I've been watching it since the very beginning. Originally I watched it as a kind of general comparison to see what other children of the same age age were doing. Now I watch it because I find it fascinating to see what kinds of things non-autistic children pick up instinctively rather than having to be taught everything like ds1 does.

Yes they did Huggybear. It was called citezen 2000, as the children featured would all be 18 in the year 2000!
I used to watch it, but don't think that they actually did a showing of it in the year 2000!
Sad thing is I remember watching the first one in 1982!

That's really interesting, Coppertop. My ds is 2000 born as well. Sometimes I find it really helpful to compare him and other times it introduces whole new issues for me to worry about! When they repeated the earlier years the other month on BBC3 I was riveted as I could now go through all that again with my dd.
Am really interested to see how some of the children and their parents are getting on - there are always some who are more memorable to the audience!

dd1 is 1999 but December so about the same age. I remember lots of heated discussions aobut the previous ones - I remember particularly hating the 'emotive' music last time - dreary sax music for the council estate kids, vivaldi for the middle class ones

My ds was born at the end of 1999 as well, so I tend to compare.
