I think it was Grigor but I think maybe I think that because you told me Raahh Grin

Probably Grin

This is a photo of the trophy when Rafa won it (taken at the Rafa museum) so it's always been ugly!

Can't believe the US Open starts on Sunday - not sure how much I will see if it as I'll be on holiday - I was wondering whether to get Tennis TV and if I could watch it abroad?

I've just seen an ad for the UTS (which I think stands for ultimate tennis showdown (although could be something else Hmm)

The players have all got names - Casper is The Ice Man, Rublev is Rubo Grin, Kyrgios is King Kyrgios Hmm

DH has said that he's definitely not going to the Rafa Museum again this year!

Well done to Jannik on winning the ugly trophy. At least the colour looks nice with his hair! Both players were tired but Big Foe never looked like winning the match, I think both semis were closer. Am debating my options for US Open, since I don’t have Sky. Last time I subscribed to NOW TV and was shocked at how little coverage I got for the money, considering it’s about three times the price of other monthly streaming services. I wonder if it will be any better this year?

Raahh · 20/08/2024 13:09

It's so annoying that tennis coverage is now spread around so many platforms. I'm glad i can now watch more via Sky- but I don't actually have Sky (it's via Virgin), so it's by accident really. At least with the time difference- and my inability to stay away these days Grin- I don't feel like I'm missing out on things as much as I did with the European tournaments.

Bring back Prime!

Raahh · 20/08/2024 13:12

I remeber some of the the names from the UTS thing last year. They obviousy gave up on names for some of them, because Frances was Big Foe - and Gael was La Monf Grin Bublik was the Bublik Enemy- which was one of the best, I think Grin

JaneJeffer · 20/08/2024 13:14

There's a thread where someone is wondering how she's going to have a wee at a festival. I think a Cincy trophy might be the solution to her problem.

I miss Prime as well. It was much easier to move between matches and the weather didn't affect it! DH did some tinkering with the dish and the signal is staying more consistent now but I fully expect it to fall down at any minute!

Grin A Festival loo is definitely one use for it.

So long as it is accidentally left behind Grin

Gael is still La Monf Grin

Yes it’s annoying, it’s like they don’t want to grow the popularity of the sport. I have been really impressed with Tennis TV, the interface and the level of tournament coverage is even better than Prime, it’s just a shame it doesn’t cover WTA or Slams. I was also happy with the Discovery+ app for Roland Garros and AO, and £7.99 a month is affordable, compared to the laughable £34.99 for a month of NOW TV Sports, which I think is for live coverage only.

ChessieFL · 20/08/2024 16:34

@Fizzywinegum Tennis TV doesn’t cover the grand slams so no good for the US open, unfortunately. I’m also on holiday next week so probably won’t see much (especially because the time difference will be even worse - I’m going somewhere 2 hours ahead of GMT). Not sure which, if any, of my TV options will work abroad.

Raahh · 20/08/2024 16:47

This is funny. And true. Grin

Fizzywinegum · 20/08/2024 16:52

Thanks Chessie and Ice - I might have to rethink my options - I liked the Discovery + coverage of the French Open (and the Olympics) - wish they were covering the US Open

I've found a sports bar in the next resort that shows lots of sports - they say that you can ask them to show a sport they're not already showing and they give you some headphones - a bit like a silent disco Grin - could be a fun holiday with me watching tennis and DH watching rugby/football with our separate headphones on!

DH has just said something to me about Sinner and drugs? - I'm off to investigate

JaneJeffer · 20/08/2024 16:52

This is it here Fizzy I meant to post it earlier but I got distracted by domestic happenings. This was kept very quiet until now and it's very strange!

That is funny about Stef Grin

It looks as if Sinner has been cleared - his physio had a banned substance on his hands which then transferred to Jannik and showed up in a doping test

JaneJeffer · 20/08/2024 16:56

Sorry it's a bit blurry but it's on his instagram

Or did Eurosport choose the picture? Grin

Fizzywinegum · 20/08/2024 16:57

Yes I've just read it Jane - it does all sound a bit strange but the authorities seem to have accepted his explanation

JaneJeffer · 20/08/2024 16:58

I hope the physio doesn't have any other transferable diseases!

OP posts:
Raahh · 20/08/2024 17:06

Very odd about Jannik, does sound like it has been accepted. I don't kow whether he was affected by an investigation at the time- he dropped out of Madrid before the semi final, supposedly injured.

Sounds legitimate though, but hopefully the physio will be more careful!

IceandIndigo · 20/08/2024 18:22

The whole doping thing is a bit weird, he’s agreed to be innocent but has to forfeit all his points and prize money from Indian Wells?! I guess that’s when the incident happened. The idea that the physio could transfer a detectable level of a substance by massaging his player’s skin seems bonkers!

Raahh · 20/08/2024 18:34

I wonder how soon he knew, he got to the semi final at IW< and lost to Carlos, but only after looking like he was going to walk it in the first set. Maybe he had to make the loss look good. All starting to look a bit suss Grin. (But I like Jannik, so I'm hoping it's all innocent and I'm just a cynic Grin).

I have now become a Clostebol investigator. Skiing you say? Hmm www.hindustantimes.com/other-sports/olympic-gold-medal-winning-norwegian-skier-fails-drug-test/story-ZS1sZMw7rtEMN3ZGWoWlvN.html
