Horrid Henry is officially banned in our house for DS aged 4.6. Does anyone else stop DC's watching certain children's programmes?

Because he is just so rude and whenever DS watches it he ends up being quite rude, ie calling people "stupid" or "loser".

DS doesn't really like CBeebies - tends to like CITV or CBBC, which we feel is aimed at slightly older children.

Thankfully we only have Freeview not cable so don't have to suffer Nickledeon, Disney Channel etc.

Rainbow Fish - it's the worst drivel ever

BANNED

lulumama · 14/04/2008 09:22

no power rangers.

meemar · 14/04/2008 09:24

I would stop my boys watching programmes if they were causing behaviour I didn't like or if I thought they were too grown up or scary (they are 4 and 2)

Fortunately they love cbeebies, so I don't have to ban anything!

meemar · 14/04/2008 09:26

I wanted to ban 'my little pony' because it is vile, but couldn't justify it to DS1

TheSweetLittleBunny · 14/04/2008 09:29

In the Night Garden is so banned - absolute twaddle.

And I don't really like him watching things like Yu-Gi-Ho, or whatever it's called, because they are so full of conflict and paranoia. SO now he is only allowed Ben 10 and Fantastic 4 as his action programmes. An unhealthy compromise I know.

I dread the day when he wants to have computer games because I am very anti those too.

tweenies. irritating multicoloured whiny shites.

sweetlittlebunny- I agree on HH.

Lulu - is powerrangers too violent then? Was thinking of encouraging it because of DS speech problems to give him some common ground when playing with kids his ages.

CorrieDale · 14/04/2008 09:32

And we had to stop DS from listening to My Naughty Little Sister in the car, when he started running off because 'a kind policeman' would find him and take him home and it would all be Great Fun.

Otherwise, Lazytown is banned but that's more because I simply cannot bear it. Oh, and Story makers because DS finds it scary. Dunno why!

tortoiseSHELL · 14/04/2008 09:33

I had to ban Horrid Henry books for a while, for the same reason.

Ours only watch CBeebies, but I have banned Space Pirates on there, because it is so rubbish!

Heifer · 14/04/2008 09:35

I banned a lot of programmes on CBBC as they are for oolder children and DD has picked up some of the insults on them (she is 4.3)

Heard clear off you git on Basil Brush the other day so that is off!

I find Nick jnr ok tbh - it is damn adverts that annoy me.. If I had £1 for every time DD has asked for a pair of LK shoes!

TheSweetLittleBunny · 14/04/2008 09:40

I would like to ban Jim Jam and Sunny because they are the CITV annoying equivalent of Tweenies and annoy the hell out of me. But DS watches it now.

And Lelly Kelly adverts are banned banned banned because they are so sick making.

Basil Brush is banned in our house - even though my 1st 3 are much older - because it is vile, badly made and rude yoof TV. Can't stand anything with Dick and Dom types in either. What I did like was Colin Salmon doing the bedtime story last week.

MrsWeasley · 15/04/2008 00:50

We've banned Tracy Beaker because DD1 adopts a Tracy attitude after watching it.

Also banned Dick and Dom after hearing children shouting Bogeys whilst in a nice animal park.

Banned Power Rangers after my DS2 said he didnt need to walk on the pavement because if a car came he would jump over the top of it. He actually beleived at the time that he would be able to do this because he had seen the Power Rangers doing it on the TV. (he was young and he only started watching it because it was all his friend talked about at school but I told him he would just have to be a billy no mates or just talk about something else )

Teletubbies is banned because my DS1 is scared of it and it gives him nightmares (He is 11 )

Dottydot · 15/04/2008 05:08

I really want to ban Ben 10. Both ds's have become addicted since we've moved in with my Mum and they've had access to Cartoon sodding Network. They start talking in faux American accents, draw green omnitrix things on their wrists and go around beating each other up...

Counting down the days until we move into our house and they're back to just having Freeview.

TheSweetLittleBunny · 15/04/2008 09:54

OMG ban Ben 10. There would be anarchy in this house. Anarchy I tell you! Ben 10 is on Freeview too btw.

DS loves Dick and Dom, Tracy Beaker, Power Rangers, Basil Brush, Emu - and I think they are all vile rude, obnoxious and horrible to each other. Oh he likes that thing on BBC called Stupid, which DH has banned.

I only ban on a day by day basis. If they play up whilst watching xyz then the tv goes off. They can watch it next day, but if they repeat the behaviour it goes off again, and so on until they get it.

Don't see the point of banning stuff completely, just makes it all the more appealing.

PrettyCandles · 15/04/2008 10:04

Not TV, but Horrid Henry books started infiltrating our house when ds was about 4, and I banned them until he was old enough to understand that they are not serious, that they are a joke of sorts, and they are not to be emulated. Now he is 7 he finds them amusing, ridiculous and clever, and he undsertsands that there are certain things you can thi nk of doing, but not actually do. I can imagine the case hat would have ensued, and the torment his little sister would have suffered had he read these books earlier!

southeastastra · 15/04/2008 10:12

yep i just switch them off, found ds(6) behaviour has improved so much since i did.

rely more on videos

fleximum · 15/04/2008 10:17

Tellytubbies is banned because I really don't like it. DH would like to ban Night Garden because it is boring and a bit wierd but ds1 loves it so no chance there. We have had fun since ds1 watched power rangers at childminders as he likes to hit things with swords (or sticks or ladles) and karate chop people. (he is only 2 but watched it with childminders 10 year old son so I can't really ban it).

FYIAD · 15/04/2008 10:20

on freeview, no nothing banned

why on earht would you ban in the night garden? it is lovely although obviously too young for a 4.6 year old (although dd1 (8) and dd2 (5) are often gripped by it along with dd3(2)

FYIAD · 15/04/2008 10:21

tv fairly strictly rationed in the week though

Oliveoil · 15/04/2008 10:23

I got a cheap My Little Pony DVD in woolies once

one of the stories on it was about how they had their own secret club house and boys were banned

the tune went something like "boys boys boys, oooh they are messy but we like them sometimes oooh boys" etc etc

it got 'damaged' and had to be binned

Oliveoil · 15/04/2008 10:25

and whenever they watch Flushed Away, someone gets called a "pink eyed freak" (after the rat) or they say "see food" and eat with their mouths open at the table

grrrrrrr

morethanmum · 15/04/2008 10:29

Tracey Beaker - dd was vile after watching this every day. No idea why Jacqueline Wilson is cannonised - all her stuff seems to be about dysfunctional families and rude children. Now I'll wait to be told how middleclass I sound!

Doobydoo · 15/04/2008 10:30

We stopped ds1 watching Brainiac.Bite size science and nearly naked women.Load of tosh.

eandh · 15/04/2008 10:30

Power rangers and scooby doo banned as it coninceded that when she watched these she got night terrors - stopped them being on and no terrors since
