New 4 part thriller /drama on sun to wed so 4 nights in a row

Lonely cab driver Tony becomes obsessed with the late night talk show

Stating Robert glenister and sean pertwee

The synopsis for the upcoming thriller teases: "Tony, in his 50s, drives a black cab, doing the night shift in the city.

He used to be a popular and respected teacher but after losing his job, his confidence plummeted, his marriage collapsed and he’s become increasingly isolated.

"Now his only lifelines are cafe-worker Rosa, whom he forms a growing attachment to, and a radio DJ called Lawrence whom he spends his nights listening to.

"One night Tony plucks up the courage and rings NightTalk to speak to Lawrence, and soon becomes a 'friend of the show'.

For the first time in years, he feels listened to. But as time passes his developing bond with the late-night DJ begins to turn into an unhealthy obsession as he starts interpreting Lawrence's 'world view' in dangerous ways that have devastating impacts on Tony’s life.

One night, by chance, Lawrence gets into Tony’s cab.

The initial excitement at meeting takes a turn when Tony realises this DJ isn't the man he purports to be. Lawrence is a fake and Tony feels betrayed."

Tony makes a decision and does something totally out of character

Oh ! I nearly always watch on catchup/player and thought it was weekly on tv , so I've only watched one !!! I need to catch up..

the80sweregreat · 10/07/2024 07:29

Watched Tuesdays one.
So , Lawrence is a fake then and it's all an act
Which I do get, but he could have been a bit nicer to Tony in his cab ! Poor Rosa too.
It is a very bleak drama all round
Last one tonight.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/07/2024 12:56

Oh poor Tony

Lawrence just wants ratings 🙀🥲

Not his mate at all

I did feel for him

Plus his so called friend in the cafe grassing his address

Not sure how this will end

Unless he confesses but now it's murder

This has progressed into something rather good.
do you think the woman at the book launch (photo and Parkinson’s etc) was planted so that he could look good and also wind it up?
it’s quite dark really. And what was that with the young girl on the bus?

I didn't think it made him look good, just suddenly abandoning what he came there to do

purpleme12 · 10/07/2024 21:01

the80sweregreat · 09/07/2024 13:09

Oh yes. The night caller DJ didn't meet Tony , so he may well come across him as a passenger in his cab and tell a few secrets maybe ?
Rosa clearly likes him , but he seems a bit cold towards her. Which is understandable, but she seems determined to carry on with the friendship despite his reluctance to get involved and is clearly lonely.

I don't think he comes across as cold, more awkward and doesn't know how to be and not a lot of confidence

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/07/2024 21:24

He's just proved he doesn't give a Shit about Tony

By saying save it for the show

I'm 30m behind as flicking between football and this

But also means I can df this via ads so should be on real time at 10

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 10/07/2024 21:31

Obv lying about cancer

OP posts:
Pinkfluffypencilcase · 10/07/2024 22:58

Hmm ok.

I thought the a tots were good. Not sure about the ending.

duc748 · 10/07/2024 23:02

I'm a couple of eps into this, and wondering whether to press on. It's good, but it's a bit, well, bleak, isn't it?

butterpuffed · 11/07/2024 14:52

All caught up . I think Tony's the one who's creepy . Rosa's a bit of a dipstick for still caring about him, after knowing what he'd done to her ex .

I agree with it being bleak , especially in the last episode . It was quite good though , for Channel 5 .

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/07/2024 16:25

Did a huge post last night but obv didn't post

Weird ending

So Tony didn't actually kill the pool boy. He tried to save him

But obv did kill nasty man

But didn't look like he was in prison

More like a secured centre and happy place - for mental health issues ?

Obv was going to stick a knife in his throat

Did Tony ever confess to lying about cancer

Sue was obv a regular but not in on it

But always on the phone line

It was bleak and no happy ending which I suppose is relatively rare.

But what was that look the presenter gave right at the end as he was talking about his happy place on air?

the80sweregreat · 08/07/2024 10:59

It feels as if it's another ch 5 drama filmed somewhere in Eastern Europe going by how the roads didn't look too busy. Although I'm usually wrong and it was actually Liverpool and it's mostly filmed at night
Felt sorry for the cafe worker who seems really nice.
I was wondering if the DJ was just in his head rather than real , but again no idea on that front.
Senior team leaders in schools had a bashing ..

Filmed in Dublin. I always check!

butterpuffed · 11/07/2024 16:44

I think the secure unit where Tony ended up was for prisoners with mental health issues , imagine it was meant to be like Broadmoor .

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/07/2024 20:56

I think Lawrence knows nothing and trying to make t the caller feel better Bt mentioning a happy place

But didn't sound like she had one

Where Tony now has

Sad so much could go wrong for him over 2mths

I thought it was longer in the past but obv not

So he felt so guilty not saving joe that he quit his job. Lost his marriage - not sure where wife went

And Decided to work nights as a taxi driver

Well that's four hours I'm not getting back Hmm . I only stuck it out for Sean Pertwee's voice .

What was "the other matter" that the taxi driver Rob was talking about with his Dealer . When he sent Tony to Paddy's Garage . He said something like he knows about the cab/running Ste over and the other matter . Tony wasn;t involved with his drugs

When the Policewoman asked him why he finished early , he said he had a migraine . If he'd said a fare threw up in his cab and he had to take it out of use , that would;ve been believable .

Why didn't he tell Rosa what Ste said on the phone . That was horrific . Did he want to protect her by not letting her know ? If he did tell her she'd have realised Tony acted out of panic .

Although based in Liverpool- it was filmed in Dublin
Agree it’s not living up to the trailer - really hoping it picks up

I've seen episode 1 and it's all places I recognised in liverpool.

The look was he was still a twat employing the same tactics for his show and that nothing had changed for him at all!

butterpuffed · 13/07/2024 10:42

I think the look that he gave when talking about sitting by the river/sitting with an old 'mucker' in the pub , was that he wished he had what he recommended to his listeners , but he didn't , he was lonely like Tony .

I feel the same about the lost four hours but somehow it had bypassed me it was Sean Pertwee, although I can see it now. Probably as well I didn't realise else I'd have been further distracted by childhood memories!

Edingril · 13/07/2024 13:05

Sure Lawrence could have been a little nicer and not lied but his job is to listen and talk to people on a radio program, he did not deserve what Tony did to him

RaininSummer · 13/07/2024 13:09

Watched first episode last night and thrilling it definitely wasn't. We are not bothering with the rest as really don't care what happens to the miserable sods.
