The first one in particular felt almost like a CBBC spin-off. I quite liked the snot monster but the babies were just silly and a bit creepy.

I scrubbed through both episodes on my phone during an ad break in The X-Files, and took a few more screenshots of the flat matte lack of variation in intensity I was talking about, in some fairly random indoor and outdoor shots.

It's so pervasive it has to be a stylistic choice — surely? Like how they're using a restricted colour palette in some scenes as a deliberate stylistic choice.

I know it might be hard to get the overall vibe I'm talking about on small phone-screen sized stills like this compared to a big screen filling your view, and I know I'm being ridiculously petty Grin and I guess lots of people don't notice it, or don't mind it, or maybe like it… It's just so fucking WEIRD to me. I hope they stop it, whatever the reason it's like that.

Even the outdoor shots, like the one with the umbrella, feel off. It's a bit like that HDR setting on phone cameras that was popular a few years back (not really related to HDR displays, for anyone who's not been reluctantly subjected to excessive information about both photography trends and display technologies…), where the bright things get dialled down and the dim things get made brighter, so the details in both a bright sky and in a dark shadowed corner are equally visible in the same picture. That can feel weird in the same way.

I'm so disappointed we tend to make a fuss on the Saturday we get a new Dr. Who we get the snacks in and have a wee Dr Who party. I was hopeful for Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson and feel they could be a great combination if only the writing was better. I've watched since being a child and this has simply been so bad that, for the first time, I'm finished likely to not watch again.

Yes it's so crappy but good at the same time

I watched it as a kid but only remember bits of it so it has a nostalgic feel

I'm one of that poor deprived generation that grew up without a childhood Doctor. 🥺🥲 I'd barely seen a glimpse of it before the 2005 reboot. Yet somehow I absorbed enough by a process of cultural osmosis to run around under an upturned laundry basket screeching "EXTERMINATE!" regardless. Apparently there were occasionally repeats of some of the very old serials in the nineties, but they never crossed my radar, and TBH I might have struggled to appreciate them anyway.

There must be parents on MN watching Doctor Who with their kids whose nostalgic childhood Doctor is Christopher Ecclestone or David Tennant (first time round) — I'm envious of those of with childhood Doctor Who memories, pre- or post-hiatus.

SPOILER!

This looks potentially marvellous - I adored the Moffat Who-niverse. He really got the bigger picture and his story arcs made some of the best Dr Who ever.

Steven Moffat returns to Doctor Who with his best episode since Blink

Just watched the first two and was very disappointed.
The Space Babies was just an awful script.
The babies looked as bored, depressed and bewildered as me most of the time.
As for a literal Bogey monster, I have enough of lads shouting out Bogeys! as a dare at school (some kind of TikTok challenge, it's like Dick and Dom never left. I'd call them Dick and Dick bit I'd lose my job and they wouldn't get the reference).
I had such high hopes for Ncuti but he sometimes comes across as smug, unstable and unsure tonally, with an accent/delivery that's all over the place.

The second one had more promise, as there is still a lot of goodwill left in me from Neil Patrick Harris's Toymaker, so his villainous son Maestro - played by a very camp but effective Jinx Monsoon - hit some high notes (pun intended).
Not put out by enby pronouns or lesbian laments, neither bother me at all but the final twist song did my head in (and this is someone who got on board with the goblin song at Xmas ffs). But if you are doing that at least do an homage to Twist and Shout, given you've used The Beatles as your denouement . Love so didn't mind Shirl and Jojo's cameos. The episode was a little inconsistent though.

Then Ruby - I mean no ill will against the actress - but she's a bit shrill and, to say she's meant to kick ass, a bit shrieky at times.
Her and the Doctor had great 60s costuming though. I'll give them that.

Maybe a few things become ironed out along the way but not the best start to a reboot.

I knew third one was written by Moffat and I'm desperately hoping it means it won't be as bad as last two but been there before with Dr WHO and other favourites and you do reach a point where you just stop and give up.

I watched two season of Picard and despite positive reviews about third series I just can't face it. Start wars - I don't bother. Dr WHO is one of the few shows left that we watch as a family I think I'd have already stopped watching if that wasn't there.

Apparently the overnight rating show a small drop off in audience between episode one and two though doesn't include later downloads- so I think others have perhaps reached that point.
