Channel 4’s The Gathering: the makers of Line of Duty and Vigil have teamed up for this new thriller

The Gathering centres around a violent attack on a teenage girl during a rave on a tidal islet.

Set on Merseyside, the drama focuses on a group of teens from disparate backgrounds, each of whom could have committed the crime, along with their parents – who give equal cause for suspicion.

Kelly, the series’ main protagonist and the victim of the attack, straddles the very different worlds of two groups of teens portrayed in the series.

She is an accomplished tumbling gymnast, well on the pathway to Team GB but at odds with her teammates and their ultra-competitive parents.

By contrast, Kelly also rolls with a group of urban free-runners, whose reckless lifestyle and exuberant free-spirit is at odds with the discipline and restrictions Kelly experiences in the tightly controlled world of competitive sport.

Alongside the first-look images, Channel 4 previously announced newcomer Eva Morgan as working-class student Kelly, who is attacked at an illicit rave on a tidal islet alongside Sadie Soverall (Saltburn) as Jessica, a friend and elite gymnastics teammate who seemingly has it all.

Vinette Robinson (Boiling Point) stars as Jessica’s controlling and toxic mother Natalie and Warren Brown (The Responder) is Kelly’s hard-working father Paul who struggles with his own impulse control.

The cast will also include Richard Coyle (Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore) as successful solicitor Jules, Sonny Walker (The Responder) as Adam, Ryan Quarmby (The Last Kingdom) as Charlie and newcomer Luca Kamleh-Chapman as Bazi.

Just finished watching this and really enjoyed it. It could have done with a bit longer at the end to tie up a few loose ends.
All the parents seem to screw up their kids life in one way or another.
Adam was a great character turned out to be completely different person than I thought he would be.

I thought it was done well. Never expected it to be Josh

Shame his parents didn't support Adam

And step mum /mum to Josh guess she was protecting her son but allowing Lou to kick out his on for being moral was wrong

I had hoped that warren/dad wouldn't have gone to prison for punching

Seem a bit extreme

But as Adam any younger brother had nowhere to go be moved in with Kelly his friend

The watch from Charlie was enough to rescue bazi sister

So did they let her go anyway as she wasn't in car before he gave then the watch

I assume Adam wouidnt be sent down for attacking Kelly sue to his age and she survived

So why did Kelly dad get a sentence for fighting

Can Kelly never do gym again without a spleen

Glad other girl quit the gym. She wasn't good enough without drugs

Was good that it didn't all end well iyswim

Yes I really liked him. Loose ends definitely need tying up. What happened to him and jess? It was just left in mid air!

Why side she lose her spleen? That would never happen!

I was thinking due to damage from the dodgy batch of ket that she was presumably spiked with? Same batch as Jess earlier in the series.

I consulted Dr Google on this and it said 'Splenic rupture is a rare but serious complication from cocaine abuse'. So I guess they were using a bit of poetic licence! But it's such a great series I can forgive the plotholes like why bang up Paul for headbutting and why does no-one use passwords!

Seemed unfair Jess lost her spleen and could compete

Questions questions questions:

1. Does kelly get into spleenless competition gymnastics the next year or is that it for her? Does she just do free-running instead?
2. Does jess tell her mum where to go and carry on doing gymnastics for fun but not competitively?
3. Do kelly and bazi get back together and she becomes bosom buddies with his sister?
4. Do jess and adam stay together? The last we saw was him trying to ring her while she was sobbing in the shower
5. If they do, how do they get round the fact that his brother drugged (and assaulted?) her?
6. Why does she think real sex is complicated? Does she just prefer cybersex or is there more to it?
7. What happens to josh and his incel mates? Juvy or counselling?
8. When's S2??

Can't answer lots of those but sure she doesn't like normal sex due to her mum shagging strangers

We know the family and only watched because Eva was in it. She's great but we really got into it.

Bit of news about the series - it won 3 Golden Nymph awards at the Monte Carlo Television Festival for best actress (Eva), best actor (Warren Clark) and best series! Hopefully the first of many awards and possibly a good justification for a second series ... maybe a prequel?

Ah no I think some things are best left as the great thing they are

Always good to see more amazing gymnastics

Would love to know their back stories. Why is Natalie such a bitch? Why is Jules such a tosser? Why does Jess only like cam sex? And their future. Do Kelly and Jess get back into gymnastics? Did Adam and Jess / Kelly and Bazi get back together? What happens to Joshi? So much we need to know! There you go, we need two more series please, a prequel and a sequel!

I'd like another series or a prequel but there's really nowhere to go... Having said that, there's a lot to explore around Kelly's mum dying and why Adam lived with them at one point so was like a brother to Kelly. It only very lightly touched on his mums mh too. Also why is Jess' mum so vile and what happened with her dad. I thought the cam sex was there just to imply that Jess was inexperienced. I was a bit confused about whether Bazi was bisexual or was just having sex with men purely for money to save his sister. I think he genuinely cared about Kelly and would have got back with her in the end. All of the characters were really likeable or easy to really, really dislike. Good twist re:Joshy.

Agree with all of this but a prequel would be difficult as the Kelly actor will already be looking older than when this was filmed. Maybe a sequel with flashbacks using a child actor?

Yes, there is that for all of the actors actresses really i guess. Depends how far a prequel would go bwbk. Tbh, good as it would be ti see more, II think it was a one off really because it tied up most of the loose ends around the majority of the characters or at least implied what was going to happen.

Good point re jess's dad. Maybe that's connected with the cam sex? Would love Kelly and Bazi to get back together. I think he was purely trying to make money, although could you really do that if you weren't at all bi? And would love Jess and Adam to get back together. The last time they spoke was when she yelled at him as she thought he'd shown the videos. And how could they get over Adams brother spiking and assaulting Jess and showing the videos. So unlikely I guess. And what would happen to Josh? Young offenders and counselling? Kelly and Bazi's relationship seemed to be based on friendship, AdAm and Jess's on cam sex 😆Could have the same actors if they just went back a few years, plus child actors.
