How do you find things that you like to watch on Netflix, Prime etc? Is there a good website you use to search?

I spend more time searching on Netflix than watching!
Prime is even more painful because everything good I find has to be paid for!.
Any tips for searching for the hidden gems?

I'd like to know this too. I normally just go by word of mouth from friends

SilverSimca · 29/04/2024 18:53

Reviews in the weekend paper, and comments on here, mostly!

Netcam · 29/04/2024 19:02

Scour Netflix and look at score on IMDb. Score of less than 6.5 and we don't bother. 6.5 and above we'll give it a try but if we're not inspired in the first 5 of 10 minutes we give up and try something else. Also cross reference reviews in The Guardian.

OldTinHat · 29/04/2024 19:03

Ditto @SilverSimca. Recommendations on here or reviews that pop up on my Google news feed.

Higglings · 29/04/2024 19:06

I use the IMDb app and get recommendations from there where I can also look at reviews.

Nottherealmama · 29/04/2024 19:06

I just see what is new or trending on there and if something takes my fancy I watch it. Occasionally I see things advertised online.

I use the JustWatch app, free and really easy to use

beetr00 · 29/04/2024 19:54

same as @Netcam IMDB etc. You can search for your preferred genres/language/t.v./films.

I look on Digital Spy on the streaming forum to see what people are watching on each platform, I also look on threads on here with the type of things I watch, check it out on IMDb, then I pop onto Just Watch or Reelgood websites to see where to watch stuff if its not clear.

Following with interest.
Sometimes our evening viewing comprises scrolling through the channels and then we go to bed

Sometimes I google for example 'series like Virgin River', pick a series you enjoy and then a list will come up and then check them out on the websites mentioned on this thread.

I second the JustWatch app recommendation. I use it to find out where I can watch shows or films, to keep a note of things I'd like to watch some day, and it notifies me if a new series of something I've been watching has been released.

ManchesterBeatrice · 29/04/2024 20:03

I quite often google, so, for example, I googled the best crime dramas on BBC iPlayer, and got some great results.

I can often do things like the best new series released in February… Or something like that. Basically Google is my friend.

I'm on a really good Facebook page: Netflix/Prime/Disney Reviews and Recommendations its public so anyone can join, found so many good shows and films from this group

We have been known to do exactly that. Tragic.

I have just downloaded the JustWatch app so maybe that will help.

I use 'Geek Town' website which gives you the UK TV air dates for new series coming up. I put them on my phone calendar so I don't miss them.

I don’t bother with Netflix anymore. Everything good they cancel

This is practically me.

Look at what's new/trending then either IMDB for ratings or watch for 10 minutes or so. Gogglebox for a sweep across all the channels. Also MN.
