Did anyone see it tonight? It never fails to make me cry. Absolutely love this programme.

Anton.

Too many vocalists, with incidental piano.

murasaki · 05/05/2024 21:50

The feedback really worked with Teddy, so much better the second time. And what dedication.

Agree, it's not a singing competition
Should.just be straight playing, in whatever style.

MsCheeryble · 05/05/2024 22:04

Teddy's playing second time around was absolutely fantastic, too. Though I'd have liked them to put Anton through as well.

murasaki · 05/05/2024 22:18

Yes, I really liked Anton. He was really interesting for such a young kid.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/05/2024 22:23

I loved Teddy and I'm glad he won. I wouldn't have been sad with Anton either

I felt the malevoice chore was cheating, it wasn't comparing like with like at all.

Anyone watching the programme on Lucy, last year's winner? Really interesting and her teacher, Daniel, is astonishing. A wonderful man and teacher.

murasaki · 05/05/2024 22:29

Lovely see her enjoying jazz and pop too.

LumiB · 05/05/2024 22:50

I liked the first series. Noone knew the judges were there but this time round people know so it feels like people turning up is bit more contrived.

Houseplanter · 05/05/2024 22:54

Not so keen on the latest series but am enjoying Lucy.. as someone else has said Daniel is amazing

murasaki · 05/05/2024 23:01

The jazz club bit was awkward, but he did realise that. When he put his hands under hers to encourage her to play when she'd had enough was difficult to see, but he got it afterwards.

I think he over reached on that. But loved his group class, but can see why his wife is worried re the amount of work and his obsessive nature re the previous mental health issues.

murasaki · 05/05/2024 23:10

Am intrigued by Daniel failing the security check so close to the concert. My sibling has played for and met the Queen et al in close contact, and our family were apparently all checked including live in partners etc (I was only told by sibling afterwards, dp was surprised he was as we were going to be nowhere near the event in question) But way before the gigs.

Houseplanter · 05/05/2024 23:11

I'm intrigued by the security thing!

murasaki · 05/05/2024 23:14

It's the short notice that gets me
This stuff takes ages to plan and it's all done way in advance.

Still, I know that should it come to pass, the parents, me,.my other sis, both our partners and possibly their families too are OK!

murasaki · 05/05/2024 23:16

I had no idea i was checked until I was told by her. Seemed excessive to me, but there we go.

shellyleppard · 05/05/2024 23:16

It absolutely made me sob tonight the music was so beautiful. Excellent series but I think they chose the wrong one to go on stage 😞 (the lady with the male voice quire was fantastic) 🤩

Bonjovispjs · 06/05/2024 00:24

Didn't Daniel say something like "it's probably my involvement with Extinction Rebellion"?

ageingdisgracefully · 06/05/2024 12:39

Feels very contrived.

Yes he did, but the 'no' would have been delivered well before the day.

BlossomToLeaves · 06/05/2024 17:11

I thought the scenes of them waiting, in the hotel room, etc, were are actually done at the time, not re-enacted/contrived?

Maybe it was short notice that he decided to go on stage with her or something, or perhaps the XR stuff was much closer to the event and only came to light after earlier clearance?

I'd like to have seen more about how the lessons worked. I got the fact that she put her hands on his to feel what the fingering patterns were, but there has to be a whole lot more to it than that - even if she can do much of it intuitively and with fabulous memory. I'd like to see how they approach a new piece, for example, how much she just remembers from hearing it a few times, or how much is taught to her in sections, or the different hands/voices; how hse practices, how she can play so fast!! despite non-conventional hand and finger positions, whether they put words to the concepts that she does instinctively, like the harmony/rhythm/styles because he clearly uses words to communicate to some extent with her and she understands, even if she doesn't use those same words to communicate back.

Lucy goes to my sons school,on the same bus but after watching it last night her teacher Daniel was not allowed to go?
