A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Our list is cumulative so includes recommendations and favourites from all previous threads. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. Judge Dee's Mystery - the main character looks like a Chinese Uhtred from The Last Kingdom, which is no bad thing.

Queen of Tears - so much blubbing but it's got into its stride after a wobbly start. Love nutjob auntie! 😍

Beyond Evil - loving all the twists and turns but wondering what they keep putting in Dong-sik's eyes to make them look so painfully red. Talk about suffering for your art 😣

Re-watching Destined With You, Vincenzo and Business Proposal when I need a comforting visual hug.

I’m in a slump in the week between QOT/Midnight Studio weekly drops and can’t get into anything. There’s lots of back catalogue I could be mining, but I have no attention span at the mo. I blame FedUp for sending me down a manhwa rabbithole.

While I wait for the week-end shows to air, I'm watching the documentary Unlocked on Netflix. It's an experiment with unlocked cell doors in a US prison, so Not Korean related, but it is an unmissable show that is deservedly No1 atm. Human behaviour is fascinating.

We finally finished watching True Beauty last night with a marathon 3 hour session and we were all very satisfied with the happy ending! We’ve chosen 100 days my prince for the next one. Trying unsuccessfully to get them to do their homework before we go to the cinema for the Agust D concert.

We’re half way through our Korean tour. Alex, best guide in the world, took us to the iconic Goblin location where people were queuing up to take photos.
The blossom has been astonishing - we were lucky to coincide with it as its season is short.

Ha - there were several couples when we were there too Andante. They'd brought tripods and matching outfits and everything and were taking loads of shots but moved aside to let us have a quick snap before resuming their quest for perfection.

Yes, his daughter got into the university at her second attempt so everyone’s happy. We brought him a fleece made by my son’s clothing business and some Islay whisky.
Our hotel in Gangneung is on the beach and after dark lots of people set off fireworks. They have a short burst in different colours and looked so pretty going off all down the beach.

I'm sure it's on your itinerary - the watercolors and calligraphy at Ojukheon House in Gangneung definitely worth a visit. The ultimate family trump card in having TWO members on bank notes too- a new definition of high achieving.

Yes, we went to Ojukheon House - it’s so interesting and well worth a visit. Also, the planting in the gardens is attractive.
