A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Our list is cumulative so includes recommendations and favourites from all previous threads. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. I'm all caught up with Lovely Runner and it's just brilliant. I'm loving it.

I'm also rather enjoying Missing Crown Prince but God knows why. The music's awful, it's too dark and the many flashbacks are unnecessary, but still I keep watching. I think I'm probably just waiting for Suho to get his sword out... literally or figuratively - either will do 😉

I've finally finished Beyond Evil - it's been a long journey! I'm glad that I stuck with it and fair play to the writers for keeping track of their own plotting, but it's too dark and twisty to recommend to DH. I'm now decompressing with the fluff that is Ghost Doctor 😄

I've also been to investigate a new (to me) Thai supermarket in my town. I found these at the till and I couldn't leave them behind, could I?! ☕️☕️☕️

I've now watched ep6 of Missing Crown Prince and although still no sword, Suho has had a couple of good fights. I'm still not sure if it will be anyone else's cup of tea but I'm having fun.

Happy Australia mothers day to all - we got some pastries from a Korean owned patisserie here - kimcheese and bulgolgi danishes, pain au chocolate and something they called a Busan scroll which we thought was basically hotteok filling in a scroll. All delicious!!

I just started Lovely Runner - it's so good! I can tell I'm going to end up bingeing it 🤣hooray for handsome swimmer/idols!
Plus Park Hye-Yoon is so likeable. I really think she elevates everything she is in.

I've a couple of things to add to the spreadsheet when I get round to it - watching more drama first!

The Atypical Family (Netflix). Good to see Jang Ki-yong and I did clock Epik High in the sound track but I feel that I'm not giving it the attention it deserves because of other more exciting dramas I'm watching and my sidestep into non-kdrama Black Mirror. I may have to do a review rewatch, same as with Lovely runner, which I dropped early on as I found the fl annoying, but hearing much love for it. #fomo 😆

So, I've also succumbed to FOMO and signed up to Viki to watch Lovely Runner! In the middle of Twenty Five Twenty One so need to decide if I wait until I finish it.

My close friend (from HK) did a tour to N Korea about 15 years ago now, she said was very stage managed, but fascinating all the same. Can highly recommend these drinks. Whilst the story is totally different, I actually think Lovely Runner has a similar vibe to Twenty Five Twenty One . Other similar shows could be A Time Called You and Twinkling Watermelon.

Migs I totally get why you found FL a bit annoying - she does loads of absolutely cringe things in the first couple of episodes and I was dying of secondhand embarrassment at times. It does get better though and I just really like her as an actress.
