Oh thank God something mindless has come along to take the place of X Factor.

My favourites to win based on sheer prejudice and what I've seen of the programme so far are:

The Blessed Germaine
Mad old Brigitte (looks like she hasn't had a face lift)
Caprice - daft but somehow appealing (might change my mind about her)

I've just watched five minutes of it on E4. I'm simultaneously ashamed and proud that I only recognised two of the "celebs" on there - Germaine Greer and Bez. It is Bez, isn't it?

I love Germaine but am slightly appalled by her agreeing to do this. Why has she done it? It does seem a little undignified of her. Does anyone agree? It's ok casting but nothing could ever beat, for me, the combination of Jack Dee ( I love him), Vanessa Feltz and the spectacularly barking Anthea Turner!

IKWYM Brady - when I saw it was her I simultaneously thought 'Brilliant!' and 'OMG, Germaine, why?'

But that's what I rather like about her - she's not going to sit in her ivory tower pontificating about the awfulness of reality tv - she's actually going to get in there and experience it. And then probably spend a lot of time pontificating about the awfulness of it but that'll be fair enough!

Very good point Moomina, it must be so she can flatten the rest of Late Review for all time now. Also maybe she thinks that this is where young viewers attention is these days so she should investigate what it means and then use it to enlighten her students about English Literature and Shakesperian tragedy!
But I think it's really brave to do this as an older woman, I mean taking a shower on telly? Fine if you're Caprice but Germaine? And how is she going to cope without books? I think the level of intellectual stimulation might be so low that she will have to do a runner over the roof like that Scot with the glasses.
