The new series is set to air this month, with Watkins leading the cast as Simon, a mild-mannered family man who is pushed to breaking point when everything in his life seems to take a turn for the worse.

As if things couldn't get more awful for him, he makes a split-second decision when he's confronted by local teenager Jordan (Joe Barber) outside his own home.

The start of the video sees Simon given the bad news about being made redundant, followed closely by wife Beth (Claire Skinner) handing over a letter from the mortgage company.

Simon then comes across a group of teenagers assaulting an elderly man, trying to interfere to get them to stop.

But it's that interaction that seems to rile up Jordan, who tracks Simon down to his home where the pair get into a scuffle, which leads to Simon punching Jordan – with fatal consequences.

The next we see is that Jordan has been rushed to hospital, with his parents left to watch on in horror as doctors attempt to save him.

But with the community labelling Simon as a 'local hero', it's not long before the truth comes creeping up on him, and grumpy neighbour Harry (David Bradley) tells Simon that he saw him and what happened on that fateful night.

Will Simon be able to keep the truth from coming out, or will he be found out sooner than he'd like?

Hmmm not sure so far.

there seem to be lots of unruly kids everywhere in tbis town!

Trinity65 · 18/03/2024 21:22

Quite liking it so far , it has promise.

JewelleryCat · 18/03/2024 21:22

I read an article and apparently it was filmed in Budapest but to be made like an estate in England. Why not film in England then?

Toddlerteaplease · 18/03/2024 21:23

How they afford such big houses!

Piggywaspushed · 18/03/2024 21:23

Oh, this is usually my favourite comment. Was literally just researching this.

Loads of C5 dramas made in Budapest. Cheap. Avoids taxes.

Piggywaspushed · 18/03/2024 21:24

I am now an expert on identifying Budapest...

NC03 · 18/03/2024 21:25

I'm a bit behind but finding him very.. stilted? If that's the word

That’s why? Just the money aspect?

Piggywaspushed · 18/03/2024 21:27

It's all filmed in a strange sub ppar Hitchcock style. I think the acting is meant to be like that too. Weird camera angles and blurred things and manneredacting. Even the titles. It's definitely no Vertigo...

Why are the lead characters in these channel 5 dramas such weak flaky people . His dithering would drive me crazy .

Yup! Brexit related.

Just thinking the same. It's dragging now.

Roryhon · 18/03/2024 21:46

It’s like watching Coronation st again. Lots of unconvincing baddies and a bumbling goodie.

ageingdisgracefully · 18/03/2024 21:51

Is Baddie Joe Nash from Line of Duty?

Piggywaspushed · 18/03/2024 21:53

Yes,Jonas Armstrong.

KohlaParasaurus · 18/03/2024 21:57

Hasn't grabbed me so far. I don't think I'll bother watching the next episode.

Mammyloveswine · 18/03/2024 22:02

Well I've enjoyed it! Dodgy camera angles annoying me though

My DSis lived in Bucharest in the early/mid 2000s - that was a favourite filming location too. I have played ‘spot the niece’ a few times, as she used to get good pocket money from being an extra.

Teentrauma · 19/03/2024 07:25

I think it's promising so far and a million times better than last weeks offering of Love Rat (not as funny though!). Interesting to read it was filmed in Budapest, did think those houses were a bit strange looking and not very English.

Janiie · 19/03/2024 08:50

Why didn't he just tell the truth, that the thug had previously harassed him, was threatening him so he hit him and he fell and banged his head.

Surely it was obvious someone would've seen? bit of a shame really I quite like Watkins.

commonground · 19/03/2024 09:05

I think there will (should) be a back story as to why he is so meek and mild (he mentioned he had been off work with stress) but it means you have to work quite hard to care about what he has done - he is not a particularly sympathetic character so the narrative has to do some heavy lifting to keep us watching. It's not doing such a great job of that for me at the moment, tbh.

That is the way of the modern TV drama though. Flawed protaganists. Ambiguous redemptions....

I wish he would. The pretending is just annoying. I can't imagine the nasty father, driving around and going out drinking, when his son is on life support. Surely he'd be at the hospital.

BoreOfWhabylon · 19/03/2024 12:04

Jason Watkins is always good value but all the characters are just caricatures.
Another rubbishy Ch5 "drama".

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/03/2024 12:38

Well I enjoyed last nights

But you know I'm easily pleased 😁

Yes he's a bit mild and meek and boring

And he flipped at being called a paedo with his daughter

A lucky punch but banged head

If only he has told the truth and camera footage would have backed up story

But then there wouldn't be 4hrs of a shoe 😂😂

Detective lady looked like Pauline 😂😂😂

I was expecting the baddy father to say he was good with tech, offer to fix the camera & find the footage. He should have just admitted what really happened when the police turned up.
