It's an absolute corker! I highly recommend it and it's a great way to refresh one's memory of the shambles that has been British politics for the last 10 years or so. Can't wait for next week's episodes ...

Err… no refreshment necessary! Still pretty damn fresh. I’ll watch it when the wounds finally become scars for life. Not quite there yet.

His role in exacerbating and perpetuating the war in Ukraine marks him as a war criminal (there are many in this club).

Oh I found it refreshed all sorts of memories that I had forgotten about Cameron, Gove, Farage, Brexit, Theresa May, the whole timeline. I'd even forgotten that Cameron resigned the very morning after the Brexit vote. It's great TV.

Watched
First one I did enjoy it.

I see from today's news that he's shipped up in Venezuela, for talks with the dictator who everyone else is shunning, and who is widely known to have rigged the election. The UK are amongst those countries demanding free and fair elections there.

What on earth is he up to?

Zonder · 10/03/2024 09:56

Is there going to be a sequel of him and his Trump style attempt at a comeback?

Watched this over the weekend, agree that it’s very good. I’m always more interested in the background/childhood of these types of characters. That’s the reason why I was disappointed with the Jimmy Saville drama, hardly any content about his childhood.

I agree the bits about his family and childhood were hugely interesting. I remarked to DH that his childhood was portrayed as pretty poor (the house and everything) and yet by the time he was 11 or 13 he was at the most expensive fee paying school in the UK. I'd like to know how that happened.

You definitely don't have to admire Johnson to enjoy the programme.

I don't think that's at all unusual in certain circles

I found his relationships with women interesting, there's arguably a real need for validation and fear of rejection going on, possibly due to his mum disappearing when he was young. Opened my eyes to similar behaviour from my ex-H.

He'll definitely make a comeback at some point. He needs to be in a position where people are looking up to him. He's a debater and campaigner, rubbish at the detail but a great front man (I can't stand him but watching the Brexit campaign, him vs Cameron, you could see where it was going. If it had just been Farage leading the leave vote, I think the result would have been different).

MissyB1 · 10/03/2024 18:19

I watched it. I would say it confirmed everything I already thought about him. Nothing matters to him except power and adulation. He didn’t believe in Brexit at all, he just wanted the notoriety and to piss Cameron off, he already at that point had designs on being prime minister.

He’s all mouth and no substance. Remember his so called “oven ready deal” 🙄

Horrace · 17/03/2024 19:22

Watched it this wknd.
Fabulous.
Not a real politician. Definitely only in it for the power. But I do find him fascinating.
Interesting to learn about his early life growing up.
I can't help but like the man.

LindorDoubleChoc · 17/03/2024 20:04

I don't watch much TV. And it's very rare for me to recommend something. I've been frustrated by certain RL friends reactions "ooooh noooo I hate him so much I couldn't bare to watch it". Their loss I guess.

I’m going to cave and watch. I despise him (didn’t feel this way about him when he was mayor) but he’s undeniably a fascinating person.

SammyScrounge · 31/03/2024 18:33

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I always wondered what all the women in his life ever saw in him but the programme gave us a glimpse of his appeal. It was great to see the full cast of characters who played their parts in his rise and fall.
Charisma, which he undoubtedly has, just wasn't enough.
