This looks like it is probably really silly.

Based on books by author of Death in Paradise.

But in case anyone wants light relief!

It stars Samantha Bond and ... ??

Just started watching. How much did they pay archaeologists in this fictional world? I’ve just had a look on rightmove and river frontage properties are not cheap! That is a many many million pound house.

I wonder if that is ever explained.

Rummikub · 06/03/2024 23:18

Yes it was an inheritance from her aunt.

I quite enjoyed it. But I like Drama offerings from 10.

Is this just a two parter?

IwantToRetire · 07/03/2024 17:06

It does look like it is only a two parter.

Maybe it is to see what sort of response it gets.

I enjoyed looking at all the lovely houses and liked the women characters, but overall it was more mid summer murders.

I may have dozed off towards the end not realising it was going to be 2 hours!

It is easy watching and lovely properties (even inheriting a multi million pound property you need to have a lot for cash for inheritance tax but willing to let that go for pure escapism).

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 07/03/2024 18:32

Bit silly but as on bedrest & steroids again so it filled a gap. Will probably watch next episode on my iPad at 3am 😬😂

Rummikub · 07/03/2024 20:48

when was it made? I thought it was an older series as it’s on drama.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 08/03/2024 04:31

It’s very recent. I enjoyed second episode more I think. Better than the Signora Volpe but then that’s not hard!

Rummikub · 08/03/2024 08:13

Oh I didn’t even give that signora Volpa a good at all. Even the trailer looked terrible.

I either get into a programme within 5 min or not at all

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 08/03/2024 08:26

You didn’t miss much. Unfortunately the last year I’ve been unwell a lot of the time which has meant a lot of rubbish tv as I don’t need to concentrate much.

Rummikub · 08/03/2024 08:42

easy watch tv is comforting x

Hope your having a better year 💐

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 08/03/2024 08:51

Thank you x

It was filmed last year, Dh and I popped into Marlow for breakfast and ended up walking in frame while they were filming. I'm going to watch it just to see if I can spot us :-)

IwantToRetire · 08/03/2024 18:01

I must have missed the start of episode 2 because suddenly the 3 women were no longer members of the public but civilian assistants (is there such a thing?)

It was all improbable but easy watching and I didn't guess the plot at all!

I had thought it was an Acorn series but searched and found it was co-produced by Masterpiece (whoever they are) and UKTV as beomg released in 2024. Quite a few new series do get shown on UKTV first (Drama is just one of their channels). I think Annika was.

The ad breaks seemed a bit longer in the last episode, but maybe that was in response to good audience ratings.

On a totally trivial note (and have got side tracked in other series by this) but many of the women looked like they had dived through a hedge backwards and / or didn't know what a comb was! And then had it gelled into place.

Apparently there is talk of a series 2.

Did you spot yourselves??

i hadn’t thought it was so recent.

I also wondered about how I missed the being civilian assistants. Is that a real thing btw?!

Theblackdogagain · 10/03/2024 10:04

Only watched episode 1! I'm not in it yet and struggling with the plot and story (really not working for me) but we're enjoying the localness of it and seeing places we go to :-)

Milsteen · 10/03/2024 21:44

I found it overlong. Didn’t really hold my attention and I was wishing for it to end!

RaraRachael · 14/03/2024 20:24

I thought this would be my sort of thing - cosy English murder mystery set in beautiful surroundings etc but it was just too far fetched and silly. I managed the first episode but gave up midway through the second and won't be bothering with any more

BarbaraBuncle · 14/03/2024 21:02

Watched the first episode with DH this evening. We enjoyed it. It's not going to win any awards for drama or acting but it's a bit of cosy crime fun with lovely scenery. I grew up near Marlow, so it was great to see it again. We'll watch episode 2 tomorrow. Hopefully they'll film the second & third novels too.
