Anyone watch Under the banner of Heaven?

What did you think?

Awful, dreadful story, but we'll portrayed, IMHO.

It was released on Disney+ in 2022 and I watched it then. Andrew Garfield was very good but I can't remember much else.

Traumatising it was very very dark

Watched it all on Disney +. Very disturbing and quite eye opening. I thought it was far too long though and found myself wizzing through the historical bits to get to the conclusion.

I got so cross with it drumming into me that it was all the fault of the Mormons, and the crisis of faith of the lead detective.

Did a bit of looking at the story, and the two detective characters were completely made up.

And the Lafferty family were brought up by a very abusive father. With that, it looked a lot more like male violence against women from some guys who thought they should be important but were actually untalented so lost their business and decided to blame everyone around them instead.

By the end I just wanted to see what happened but without the lecture.

I started reading the book a while back, you've reminded me that I need to finish it before I watch the TV version

I did find it confusing how it went from modern day to early days and also to past recent history etc.

It was, I felt, a terrible indictment of male violence, male attitudes etc to women.

I loved it and read the book (before hand). I'm an ex Mormon so found it really interesting and relatable. The more modern day story is based on true events but some of the characters were made up in an effort to tell the story, which I think worked well.
