Were they frozen slices of aubergine? Can I get the recipe anywhere?

i didn't see it but it is here if you still want to eat it after you've read their opinion.

reindeermum · 24/03/2008 20:58

I am also only half watching it as too much footage of her "life" and football etc which is irrelevant and boring so also missed aubergine details as on mumsnet.

However I did catch it when she said "hooomooose" ??????? have never in my life heard anyone call it that before!!!!!!

Bluestocking · 24/03/2008 20:59

She doesn't look well, does she? Could do with a bit more blusher maybe.

Lucycat · 24/03/2008 20:59

I was just curious as I've never seen frozen aubergine before... the rest sounds like crap.

Frozen chargrilled aubergine.
A tomato sauce
Layered with basil
Cheddar and mozzarella
Parmesan

I think that was it.

Looked good to me.

Thomcat · 24/03/2008 21:03

Oh is this the new stylee Delia - where she cuts massive corners and endorses the use of canned mince

How can you be so lazy, and call yourself a cook and buy/use tinned mushrooms. The thought makes me want to chunder instantly. How long does it take to chop a few mushrooms ffs.

PeachesMcLean · 24/03/2008 21:05

Saw neither tinned mince nor tinned mushrooms this evening.

Saw it for the first time this evening. Could do without the football stuff but generally thought it was interesting.

Carmenere · 24/03/2008 21:06

How much effort is it to slice and fry an aubergine, about as much as it takes to remember to look for it in the frozen section of whatever supermarket is paying Delia through the nose to ADVERTISE them.

Kindereggsurpise · 24/03/2008 21:06

I thought the recipe looked yummy, but only if made using fresh ingredients. And it would only take a few minutes more to make it yourself.

The frozen aubergines were strange, and did oyu see that she cut them up with scissors.

morningpaper · 24/03/2008 21:08

I'm SORRY how can you speak positively about the mushroom incident

Spend 20 minutes sweating mushrooms and garlic in madeira, and then add a frozen mushroom risotto ?????

WHY NOT JUST ADD RISOTTO RICE?!?!??!?!?!?!!

Kindereggsurpise · 24/03/2008 21:08

It was funny when she demonstrated the Hollandaise sauce and all the elderly ladies gasped when she said, "Frigging"

PeachesMcLean · 24/03/2008 21:08

Interestingly, no advertising on programme. Book is full of it.

I ain't coming home from work and chargrilling aubergines for no one. Looked like a perfectly acceptable alternative to me.

Thomcat · 24/03/2008 21:08

No DP told me about something he'd read in the Guardian, and he mentioned the tinned mince thing.

And the tinned mushrooms - i caught the last few seconds and saw that risotto and thought her mushrooms were tinned because of the tinned mince thing.

JackieNo · 24/03/2008 21:09

(technically it wasn't moussaka - it was 'melanzane parmigiana' (feel free to correct my spelling).)

PeachesMcLean · 24/03/2008 21:11

The mushrooms were dried porcini, and chopped chestnut. She did then put in the madeira and a load of the frozen risotto. I don't know what was special about the frozen risotto, I always thought it froze very badly.

Come to think of it, I confess there was something at the end which I didn't catch cos I was talking and could have been tinned mushrooms. I guess they're not compulsory though...

treacletart · 24/03/2008 21:12

Who-mousse had us chuckling

Kindereggsurpise · 24/03/2008 21:12

The mushroom risotto looked absolutely disgusting.

And risotto is actually really easy to make. A bit time consuming, but then so was her recipe.

Kindereggsurpise · 24/03/2008 21:13

Oh, I did not catch that it was supposed to be melanzane alla parmagiana, that is one of my favourite recipes. I use more tomato sauce than she did though.

PeachesMcLean · 24/03/2008 21:14

Those frozen sea bass fillets looked useful.

JackieNo · 24/03/2008 21:26

What was with the frozen chickpeas, too? Why not from a tin? I don't think I've ever seen frozen ones.

JackieNo · 24/03/2008 21:27

Oh yes, and I had a happy thought about the melanzane stuf - you could just add some tinned mince and a pot of cheese sauce to make it into moussaka (see how I'm starting to think like Delia now?)

morningpaper · 24/03/2008 21:34

frozen chickpeas

it is quite unthinkable

sunflowervalley · 24/03/2008 21:35

Just checked Delia's online website and there is a list of the items she uses for the recipes and what supermarket stocks them.

PeachesMcLean · 24/03/2008 21:37

LOL, so are frozen chickpeas more unthinkable than tinned chickpeas?

morningpaper · 24/03/2008 21:40

but they CAN so nicely
