There is NO WAY that Precious Ramotswe would snog the husband of a client!

I'm disappointed.

I asked DH if he thought Precious was the right age and he thought yes. Jill Scott is 36 in RL.

How old is she supposed to be?

I loved this I thought it was great- I was just about to start a thread. I haven't read the book though. I think a lot of people are disappointed with films/dramas after reading the book because you create your own ideas about he characters in your mind that don't match what is being portrayed in a film.

Why did she turn down the proposal?

RoxyNotFoxy · 24/03/2008 10:56

I don't expect too much authenticity here. I was brought up in two different African countries, and there was nothing wrong with the scarf. I've seen them like that often enough. I do have to say that the streets are a lot cleaner than they are in reality, if Botswana is anything like Uganda or Malawi. But it was a fairly pleasant and undemanding couple of hours. And the secretary made me laugh out loud.

It was always a pound to a penny that no Botswanan woman would get the lead role. It was bound to go to an American. That, as they say, is a given.

i was a bit disappointed in the story line. haven't read the book but the screen play narrative was very simplistic, almost Rosemary and Thyme-ish.

The books are pretty simplistic too, Ruty, but they're utterly charming and 'feel-good'. More about the characters than the plot. Loved the film. Are they making a series too? Thought Jill Scott was excellent as Precious and not too young as I had feared, but wasn't as keen on the secretary's potrayal - too thin & too pretty.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 24/03/2008 16:48

I thought she was older than I imagined to be honest. If Jill Scott is 36 in real life - you have to remember the average life expectancy in Botswana is 34 so she is well old.

I really liked it - had forgotten the snogging bit in the book too but I did read it a couple of years ago. I am preganant and v hormonal so did shed a tear at a couple of bits (when she rescued the little boy, and some of the lovely singing ).

From what the voice over guy said afterwards I gathered that there is a series to follow, but I could be wrong. Not until next year though .
