This looks really good and meant to be very powerful

3 parts on this week mon Tue and wed

After the huge impact of Mr Bates Vs The Post Office, another social and political reckoning could be coming with the searing new three-part drama (https://www.stylist.co.uk/tag/drama) Breathtaking.

Based on palliative care doctor and writer Rachel Clarke’s personal memoir about the Covid-19 crisis, the hard-hitting series is an account of the life of a frontline NHS doctor through the pandemic.

“There is so much misinformation and rewriting of history around what really happened inside our hospitals during the pandemic,” says Clarke.

“The truth is, NHS staff gave everything they had in impossible conditions that sometimes cost them their lives.

It is an honour to try and depict the courage and decency of my NHS colleagues on screen, and I’m so grateful to ITV and HTM Television for giving me the
chance to show the public the truth.”

The three-part series is based on Rachel Clarke’s personal memoir, where she wrote about her own experience of working during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Set in a fictional big-city hospital, the drama narrates how frontline medical staff endured fear and frustration as they desperately tried to save the lives of coronavirus patients,” reads the show’s synopsis.

It recounts the devastating impact of the pandemic through the eyes of acute medicine consultant Dr Abbey Henderson (Froggatt).

Who is in the cast of Breathtaking?
• Joanne Froggatt as Dr. Abbey Henderson.
• George Georgiou as Hue.
• Lucy Montgomery as Clare Boxall.
• Georgia Goodman as Divina Aquino.
• Jodie McNee as Jules Jarmen.
• Mark Dexter as Mike.
• Bhav Joshi as Dr. Ant Vyas.
• Henry Meredith as Tommy.

Do i also have to start linking threads where supermarket workers were moaned at and called selfish for struggling to wear masks?

Why?

Because of some idiots on SM?

what has that got to do with this drama though? And no your earlier post doesn't make it clear.

sunglassesonthetable · 21/02/2024 20:15

All key workers were amazing, and very brave to continue working during the pandemic.
But health care workers are dealing with aerosol procedures and bodily fluids. In extremely close contact for prolonged periods of people who all had covid. So their chances of catching covid are massively increased and viral loads are likely to be much higher. They are witnessing first hand how unwell people can become - and at the same time they are aware that it could be them next time. They are dealing with death on an ongoing basis - with all the psychological trauma that’s causing. It’s just at a different level than other key workers .

I'd agree. My job was busy but not emotionally draining.

Just watched the last one. Even sadder if that were possible. But so important. I didn't even work in the NHS but I've found watching them all brings back a lot of awful memories. Not quite sure what to do with myself now.

sunglassesonthetable · 21/02/2024 21:17

sunglassesonthetable · 21/02/2024 21:36

Oh give it a rest champ. I thought the first episode of the drama was amazing, that's why I'm on this thread. Not sure why you are tbh. But you're very annoyed about something.

And actually I meant that thread from 2020, still seems to be bothering you. It's a few randoms!

JewelleryCat · 21/02/2024 21:42

Poor Emma 🙁

JenniferBooth · 21/02/2024 21:52

Has there been studies into the genetic pre disposition yet?

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/02/2024 21:59

I thought this series was amazing and such an insight to what many didn't know what happened

As I said I had an inkling due to friends being nurses

But seeing it actually being acted out was harrowing

I'm glad abby went on the radio. I hope she wasn't told off by ceo

Were there more whistleblowers like Abbey do you think or were they scared about the consequences?

JenniferBooth · 21/02/2024 22:04

lovinglaughingliving · 21/02/2024 15:52

I'm asking you to be respectful of what we have been through, instead of essentially accusing us of leaving patients to die alone whilst we danced in some internet craze or skipped the queue at the supermarket.

I didn’t accuse anyone of ‘leaving patients to die’!
Saying the dancing was disrespectful.

purpleme12 · 21/02/2024 22:26

Interesting watching the conversation with the doctor and his mum!
True to life I guess

JenniferBooth · 21/02/2024 22:35

The anti vaxxer rhetoric in the press while i was trying to access the second vaccine (took four goes) and an old schoolfriend of mine was told she would have to travel to London for hers felt a bit gaslighty tbh

So so upsetting watching that woman upset because she wasn't with her children 😢😢😢😢

JenniferBooth · 21/02/2024 22:41

The programme showed vaccine hesitancy but not the fact that some of us had trouble actually accessing the vaccines. My first was Moderna and when i went for the second one they said it had to be the same and that they didnt have any. I had to keep going back. It was fucking annoying when the Gov. and media kept banging on about anti vaxxers and vaccine hesitancy but not a whisper about how the vaccine rollout was a shambles in some areas Not a whisper about that in this programme either. NOT the fault of the vaccinators It was supply issues. But i wonder how many people gave up trying.

JenniferBooth · 21/02/2024 22:43

I very much hope im not going to be gaslighted and told that my second vaccine didnt have to be the same as the first. Initially yes but then the guidance changed.

I dont THINK other professions wernt appreciated. I SEE it on here all the time

I agree. I'm a childminder and worked throughout, caring for NHS & Social Care staff children - in our home. We weren't allowed face masks and obviously you can't social distance with a baby. I got a lot of abuse from parents if I sent a symptomatic child home, and even more so when the days of testing came. And don't even start me on the inability to get enough bread, fruit and pasta to feed 8 children!
