New drama for 3weeks on a Monday night

got a good cast imo

The official synopsis for the drama says that it "tells the story of an ordinary family caught up in an extraordinary chain of events that ripple out from their home town".

The synopsis continues: "Ambitious, powerful and surprising, The Way taps into the social and political chaos of today’s world by imagining a civil uprising which begins in a small industrial town.

"Fleeing unrest, The Driscolls are forced to escape the country they’ve always called home and the certainties of their old lives.

Will they be overwhelmed by their memories of the past, or will they lay their ghosts to rest and take the risk of an unknown future?

"The Way is an emotional and darkly humorous story about what it means to be faced with impossible choices."

The Way features an absolutely stacked cast, led by Steffan Rhodri (Gavin & Stacey (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/comedy/gavin-stacey-star-mathew-horne-cliffhanger-exclusive-newsupdate/)), Mali Harries (The Archers (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/soaps/the-archers-rob-titchener-dies-newsupdate/)), Sophie Melville (The Pact (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/pact-season-3-release-date/)) and Callum Scott Howells (It's a Sin (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/sci-fi/nathaniel-curtis-doctor-who-newsupdate/)).

Other actors who make appearances in the series include director Michael Sheen (

I probably shouldn't have tried following a knitting pattern at the same time but I didn't have a fucking clue what was going on except that a young man fell into a vat of molten steel and then all hell broke loose with some weird Handmaid's Tale-like people dressed in red sneaking around. Not sure whether to try watching it again today giving it my full attention or just give up on it.

It was a doctor who/ triffids/ 80s miners strike documentary/ politics broadcast with btec shaky ‘surveillance’ camerawork. Coherent it was not. It had all the right ingredients but was so overcooked.

I wanted to like it but it was definitely overcooked. Or incoherentundercooked. One of those.
I am probably a Grumpy Old Woman. I no longer have patience with TV, books, etc and do not feel obliged to 'stick with it' in the hope that it gets better.
I gave up after 40 minutes

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 20/02/2024 10:54

Actually, having read the Wiki summary not sure I'll bother rewatching it!

Babla · 20/02/2024 10:56

Mixed reviews but definitely worth a watch

OiGetOff · 20/02/2024 11:06

Erm. I’m not sure what I just watched.

I may have enjoyed it, or I may have hated it. Or somewhere in between.

I just…don’t know 🫤

It’s different, I’ll give it that.

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/02/2024 11:07

Excellent cast but incoherent mishmash.

duc748 · 20/02/2024 11:25

The scene at the community meeting, with all that ridiculous speechifying by Dee and Geoff, everyone waiting patiently, so theatrical and stagey! There was more subtlety in Brass! No Welsh cliché left unmined, the windbag politician, for example. The tricksy editing, and pointless pseudo-mobile phone footage.

They writers were clearly aiming for GBH-style State of the Nation piece. This fell miles short for me. The only question now is, whether it's worth continuing watching on a so-bad-it's-good basis.

senua · 20/02/2024 11:28

I see what you did there.Grin

candgen625 · 20/02/2024 21:39

The first episode was fantastic. So well
Made and clever

Episode 2/3 don't bother. Utterly ridiculous. It could have been so good as well. Such a great concept .

Pigeon257 · 20/02/2024 22:03

I've just got to the Welsh Catcher 😱😂 Michael Sheen is better than this, surely?!?!?

Tinysoxxx · 20/02/2024 22:55

omg it was so heavy handed.
Everything thrown in.

Just needed Gaston to break into song.

Edited

The absolutely jumped the shark several in episode 3. They threw so many unnecessary plot points in.

candgen625 · 21/02/2024 10:09

At what point can we do spoilers so I can mention these terrible plot points

I'd say, as it's a No Spoilers (TV pace) thread, a couple of days after the latest episode. Which wouldn't include Ep 3.

But it's not my thread.

butterpuffed · 21/02/2024 13:19

That was a load of absolute shite so uninteresting .

It gets slightly less jagged in episodes 2 and 3. But it’s still a laborious watch.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/02/2024 22:16

I'm Not sure I have the energy to do it tbh

Just watched episode 1 and I liked it, but it then I like Adam Curtis documentaries which are certainly a bit 'different' (all the found footage and mish mashed music)
Bit worried about episode 2 and 3 reading these replies!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 22/02/2024 05:59

yes i liked episode one

They are worth a watch for comedy value lol.
And it's a shame as episode one was fantastic
