I quite like this idea and I'm glad they're continuing the programme

I have warmed to her in GBBO and think she'll be good.

Well I think it is relevant .
If you are a presenter who is asked to go on a programme about farms with livestock and you accept the programme then follow the advice you will be given.
Which won't be Oh run about shouting "Babes" when they follow you which is what they will do because it is their routine

Why not just say "Oh I;m not good with large animals"

I watched some of the old Paul O'Grady You Tubes , he had very nervous dogs coming over to him as he sat relaxed on the floor , gradually a paw , then another paw , some fur and some slobber . He adjusted his tone and posture depending on if it wanted to playy or be comforted .

Alison Hammond shrieking with laughter or screaming on a floor is not something I want to see .
And she has accepted this programme I'm guessing no-one has forced her ?

Maybe she's doing it to get over her "Fear of Dogs" but a group of rescues is not the way to do it

I can't see Alison sitting on the floor. I am not sure she could get down there or, if she could, get up again. Not being nasty as I would be unable to just being realistic.

I very much doubt she is doing it to get over her fear of dogs. I would think she is doing it only for the money

But actually that is nasty and also a bit of a pointless comment. Unless you know her well you don't really know whether she could shoot a piece of film sitting on the floor or not. I'm larger than her and regularly have to get on the floor as part of my job, so I do.
I have a friend her size who runs marathons.
For all you know she's a yoga whizz who has no issue with this 🤷🏽‍♀️

WTF?

That's heartless.

This is what she said.

'This Morning presenter Alison Hammond was told off by an unimpressed Dr Scott Miller as she started giggling at a caller's pet problems during the advice segment.
Dr Scott did not look happy as Alison could be heard laughing in the background as a woman called in to get advice to help her dog, who was suffering from a phantom pregnancy.

But as the caller spoke to Dr Scott, he suddenly turned to Alison and said: "Don't laugh, it's not funny," as she could be heard quietly giggling in the background.

Later in the segment, Dr Scott eventually had to say sorry to a different caller, who had rung about her cat leaving her, on behalf of the host as she started laughing and told her to "just get another cat".

That's really not kind of her.

If someone had told me just to get another dog when my dog died, I would have been really upset, and angry.

CwmYoy · 04/02/2024 16:33

I can't stand her. I have no idea why anyone would employ her.

Me too, they are part of the family.

I have been totally devasted when my cats have died.

JSMill · 04/02/2024 17:16

You wouldn't get someone who had no interest in, for example rugby, to present the 6 nations would you? I won't be watching it and I suspect it won't do well in the ratings.

JewelleryCat · 16/04/2024 21:30

I know this thread is a few months old but if you did watch it, what did you think of Alison as the presenter? I’ve just watched it and she does handle the dogs, the way she was with them was cute, especially Oscar but it seems to me to be a different vibe to the programme which I'm guessing is her spin on it. I did like the tribute to Paul at the beginning

Riverlee · 17/04/2024 11:13

I thought she did okay, to be honest. She obviously enjoyed it and seemed comfortable with the dogs.

Must add it, she wouldn’t have been my first choice, as not known for being a dog person, but she did surprise me. She seemed softer and less brash than in other shows.

xSideshowAuntSallyx · 17/04/2024 11:25

I didn't watch it because I was watching something else.

But she was always going to have big shoes to fill, Paul made that show his own. I'm glad they're continuing it though because it's a lovely programme.

Alison gets a hard time, sometimes unfairly, I think she does well on Bake Off and I had my misgivings about that so I might give her a chance with this.

No one can replace Paul and I think she knows that.

YourWinter · 17/04/2024 11:33

What on earth do people like about her? I can’t stand her, screeching and cackling, incredibly unfunny, just loud and overbearing. Nothing remotely appealing about her manner, presentation, or personality. Paul O’Grady is a hard act to follow but Alison Hammond is about as far removed from innate gentleness as it’s possible to be.

peachescariad · 17/04/2024 11:37

Used to love that programme but definitely wont be watching it now - I can't bear her, plus dogs are hugely intuitive and know who are 'dog' people and naturally gravitate to them.

TokyoSushi · 17/04/2024 11:44

Not RTFT but Alison seems a bit random. Gemma Atkinson would have been perfect for this role, huge dog lover and also works with animal sanctuaries in her local area.

Tel12 · 17/04/2024 11:55

I think that she's a bit loud and will scare them.

JewelleryCat · 17/04/2024 12:04

I read an article and she knows she can’t replace Paul. She called him iconic which he was and I also liked her on Bake Off

Did you watch it last night? As I said in my post, she was much softer, and the dogs were the stars of the show, not her.

Deathraystare · 17/04/2024 15:26

Well she is presenting every other programme on TV so no surprise there. I would not be surprised if she turns up as an Ixpert on next times MAFS AUS. What with her and that Ant & Dec lot......

SirChenjins · 17/04/2024 15:54

That’s good she’s toned it down and made the dogs the stars and not her, as she usually does. Long may it continue.

Ellmau · 21/04/2024 13:43

She did well, just as she did on Bakeoff. Maybe she has matured as a person? I remember disliking her on Strictly and haven't really seen her in anything else but she came across warm and sympathetic towards the dogs. Less overt comedy than Paul brought, obviously, but I always found those bits a bit cringey anyway - it was all perfectly OK.

Wasn't it an hour when Paul did it?

RichardsGear · 21/04/2024 16:05

It felt all wrong to me. Paul O'Grady is a huge miss.

Not2identifying · 07/05/2024 20:27

I like Alison on the Bake Off but I think you can tell she's not a dog person. I don't think she'll last more than one series on this.

EachandEveryone · 07/05/2024 20:54

I wonder why they didn’t ask Alan Carr or Julian Clary both dog lovers? Even Colleen Nolan who also rescues. With Ricky Gervais as an occasional guest presenter. Someone that loves animals!

xSideshowAuntSallyx · 07/05/2024 20:58

I think she's doing okay. I wouldn't watch with Alan Carr or Coleen Nolan can't stand either of them.

Julian Clary would just look like they're trying to replace like with like.

EachandEveryone · 16/05/2024 17:10

Dermot O’Leary or Ricky Gervais are proper animal lovers. Both too busy In sure 😀
