I quite like this idea and I'm glad they're continuing the programme

I have warmed to her in GBBO and think she'll be good.

I might watch the first episode out of curiosity, just to see how someone with a fear of dogs presents a show called 'For the love of dogs'. Odd choice.

ssd · 04/02/2024 09:21

She will be great at this

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 04/02/2024 09:31

I really like her on GBBO but I don’t think she’s a good choice for this. I heard that Ricky Gervais turned it down. I don’t think he’s a good fit either. Yes to Martin Clunes. 🐕‍🦺🐾❤️

Out of interest why do you think so?

She seems a strange choice apart from the fact she seems to be flavour of the month. She is so loud and doesn't particularly like/is scared of dogs. How does that equate to her being great at it?

I also can't see her, as others have said, getting down to the dogs' level and speaking softly and calmly to them and letting them climb on her.

Judging by comments on facebook, digital spy, twitter etc she is not a popular choice and I can see the programme losing viewers.

berksandbeyond · 04/02/2024 10:32

Another one who would have liked to have seen Ricky Gervais do it. Alison Hammond defo not a good fit for this show

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/02/2024 10:38

She asked Kaleb: "They are the noisiest cows I've ever heard, are they going to hurt me ?"
She felt reluctant to feed them as the presenter was fearful about the hungry herd following her around .
Alison yelled as she became increasingly more scared, telling Kaleb: "Babes! Babes! Why is this one following me ?"

***

This from her visit to Clarksons Farm.
Where they would most likely have said We're going into a field with a 40 stong herd of cattle , it's their feed time and they are very used to seeing someone approach with a bag of fodder . They;ll follow the bag, they want fed

So AH shouts and runs . Probably for "comedy" effect "What would bubbly loud TV star AH do in a field of cattle ? Stand calmly and dispense the food or shriek and run"

Willmafrockfit · 04/02/2024 10:56

i wouldnt go in a field of cows

i never watched for the love of dogs so perhaps i shouldnt judge i am just impressed that she gets the gigs, so good for her!

Willmafrockfit · 04/02/2024 10:56

she was the second person to be eliminated in big brother in 2002 and got work immediately!

ToffeeShocker · 04/02/2024 11:04

Oh God is there anything she’s not in?
I like her but she’s totally the wrong person for the job.
Why do we always have to have the same old presenters on everything? I’d prefer an unknown dog lover over her.

purpleme12 · 04/02/2024 11:14

Well to be fair the post about her and cows isn't really relevant is it 🤣
I think many people would react differently to cows and dogs!

I disliked her in BB and personally am amazed she has done so well. So full of herself, so false, that awful laugh and calling everyone "babes".

I will admit she has been ok in Bake Off apart from a bit of showing off but I hope she didn't tone it down for her first series and then goes back to being "her" in the next series.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 04/02/2024 11:27

Why does AH have to be slotted into every single theme & programme. I liked her on some things like the Saturday night singing show but find her loud and irritating and don't want her to replace Paul, not convinced she's got the natural love for dogs.

Well I think it is relevant .
If you are a presenter who is asked to go on a programme about farms with livestock and you accept the programme then follow the advice you will be given.
Which won't be Oh run about shouting "Babes" when they follow you which is what they will do because it is their routine

Why not just say "Oh I;m not good with large animals"

I watched some of the old Paul O'Grady You Tubes , he had very nervous dogs coming over to him as he sat relaxed on the floor , gradually a paw , then another paw , some fur and some slobber . He adjusted his tone and posture depending on if it wanted to playy or be comforted .

Alison Hammond shrieking with laughter or screaming on a floor is not something I want to see .
And she has accepted this programme I'm guessing no-one has forced her ?

Maybe she's doing it to get over her "Fear of Dogs" but a group of rescues is not the way to do it

JewelleryCat · 04/02/2024 11:35

I agree. ITV should have got rid of the programme entirely or made a new programme about another rescue centre with AH. If she likes cats so much and it has to be Battersea, why not showcase the cats there? You can’t replace Paul, no one can

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 04/02/2024 11:40

She doesn't like dogs and she's very loud.

Yeah, perfect choice.

Why is this woman suddenly everywhere?

Your post is relevant to the cow Tele programme like you have put yourself in your post.

I will reserve judgment on Alison and The Love of Dogs till I see her on the programme.
Hopefully the opinions voiced on this thread will be wrong

lollipoprainbow · 04/02/2024 12:02

She was on Michael McIntyre show last night being woken up in bed by Jason Donovan. Give us a break please.

MissMelanieH · 04/02/2024 12:04

I have no problem with AH at all but I'm disappointed to hear that she's not a dog lover. That program will only really work with somebody who properly adores the dogs and gets involved.
I'd love to see Martin Clunes doing it
Or Jac Naylor from Holby city is a huge animal lover and is currently out of a job...why not her?

I do feel like if you're the "face of the moment" you get cast in everything regardless of suitability and it infuriates me really!

ToffeeShocker · 04/02/2024 12:10

For the sake of those poor dogs, I hope you’re right.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/02/2024 12:15

Should we all thank our lucky stars it isn't Bradley and Barnaby Walsh that they chose ?

I love Bradders but he is appearing everywhere at the moment too.
Maybe he's not fond of animals who knows ?

Or Ben Shephard ?

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 04/02/2024 12:23

DancingOnMoonbeams · 03/02/2024 00:52

One time on a segment with the Vet on This Morning she commented that someone who was very sad they had just lost a beloved pet 'Should just get another one'.

The Vet and Dermot were speechless!

WTF?

That's heartless.

JSMill · 04/02/2024 14:33

I'd rather they had scrapped the program than brought someone in who wasn't a dog lover. In fact it's not enough to be a dog lover, you have to be able to put nervous and anxious dogs at ease. Paul O Grady was just wonderful with the dogs.
Why do ITV keep using the same presenters for everything?

Yirk · 04/02/2024 14:43

I agree the programme should have been scrapped, Paul made it his own with his genuine love of animals.
Allison will have to really tone down her loud speech and laugh, a lot of the dogs are nervous, abused and terrified !!

Riverlee · 04/02/2024 14:50

My first thought was she’s not the right person either for the same reason - she’s not a dog iwner. Alternatives I can think off -

Matt Baker - surprised his name has been mentioned, has sheepdogs

Michael Ball - loves dog,s

Clare Balding - does Crufts

Kate Humble (or other Springwatch presenters)

Dog House people - someone from the office you see in The Doghouse programme

SirChenjins · 04/02/2024 14:55

Oh god, not AH ☹️ Everything she’s in becomes all about Alison - as pp have said, there are so many other people who are better suited to this programme. What a shame.
