I quite like this idea and I'm glad they're continuing the programme

I have warmed to her in GBBO and think she'll be good.

Cue lots of loud booming laughter, she might scare the dogs !

Levriers · 03/02/2024 05:39

I don’t mind her but she’s apparently not a dog person & it needs to be a dog person. Also she’s quite loud & you need quiet & calm around rescue dogs. I think itv should let the programme go as no one will be able to replace Paul

hattie43 · 03/02/2024 06:13

I'm not sure Paul is replaceable really . I'd prefer a new show , still focussed on rescue but new format new presenter

mydogisthebest · 03/02/2024 11:19

I think she is an awful choice and can't understand why she was chosen. Martin Clunes, Amanda Holden, Tom Hardy, Julian Clary all would be much much better choices.

She is far too loud and will probably scare the dogs, some of whom have suffered trauma. I doubt she will get down to their level to speak to them, stroke them etc.

To top it off though she doesn't even like dogs very much!

Saw this elsewhere. A reaction to her being signed.

A terrible choice of presenter and I agree with @2chocolateoranges .

CombatLingerie · 03/02/2024 15:54

Also agree with@Levriers and @hattie43 .

CormorantStrikesBack · 03/02/2024 15:56

Oh dear. I agree you need to be a dog lover.

JadeSeahorse · 03/02/2024 16:01

Dreadful choice!

You need to be someone who absolutely adores dogs to present this programme. I'm a cat person too and am quite nervous of dogs. I would be useless and I dread to think how AH is going to react around some of the bigger and notoriously difficult dogs. Paul never, ever worried around them. It was like he got into their minds.

Julian Clary would be fab and it would be a terrific tribute to Paul having one of his closest friends carrying on his immense legacy.

AzureBlue99 · 03/02/2024 16:06

Maybe Clary was asked and said no. Ditto Holden, there were strong rumours she was taking over. They should scrap the programme.

Houseplanter · 03/02/2024 16:15

I didn't know she wasn't a dog lover, in which case I agree with those saying not a good choice

I think it’s sad not to pick someone who is a massive dog lover, sort of carrying on Paul’s legacy. Tom Hardy in particular, just a natural affinity and warmth, he would have been brilliant and true to the programme, and to the dogs.

Honeyroar · 03/02/2024 21:46

I don’t mind her, but can’t see her in this role, particularly if she doesn’t adore dogs. You need someone who will want to take them all home. I’d have loved to see Ricky Gervais take over.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/02/2024 22:23

I also think the programme should just quietly bow out now , it will not be the same with a new presenter , especially not Alison Hammond who will make the programme all about her .

Paul o'Grady had nurtered this series from the start . Not being invasive oh look at me with my TV cameras .
The look of anger and digust for the humans who treated these dogs in this manner was palpable .
He sat with shy or scared dogs to win them round .
And when he started a new segment with that face you knew it was going to be a tough watch.

Tom Hardy is pretty much an A list Hollywood actor though - i know he appeared for 5 minutes in an episode ages back but I can't see him doing it full time.

Exactly! He loved the dogs with a passion and didn't care if he got licked, nipped, humped, shat on, pissed on, drooled on, whatever. Alison Hammond will just be all, "HiIYA BAAAAABE!' [cackle, cackle, cackle] to the humans with no feel for the dogs at all.

RestingMurderousFace · 03/02/2024 22:43

Quietly raging about this. Alison is not a good fit, at all!

purpleme12 · 03/02/2024 22:43

Well let's give her a chance and hope she proves us wrong

I know @RichardsGear but it would just be so ……nice. He did bedtime stories though!

Yes Martin Clunes would be so good, he genuinely love s dogs.

He's pro fox hunting though

bellamountain · 04/02/2024 00:47

They like employing the SAME people at ITV. Simon Cowell would have been a better choice, he loves dogs.

Winberry · 04/02/2024 08:40

Sheridan Smith? Dog lover who did a great job presenting a dog grooming competition show a while back.

Or Kate Humble I haven’t heard of her for a while but again lives with dogs and has written about the dog and human partnership.

Changing topic completely, is it AH who voices over the Wren kitchen adverts?

Anyway has to be a dog lover for me, I mean that’s the name of the programme

lollipoprainbow · 04/02/2024 08:59

Big mistake, stopping the programme would be a better tribute to Paul rather than having a dreadful presenter.

Willmafrockfit · 04/02/2024 09:02

she is doing very well for herself
i never was a fan but she did well on gbbo

Winberry · 04/02/2024 09:04

@lollipoprainbow yes I think I agree with you, shame as I’m sure someone genuinely appropriate to continue Paul’s work could have been found.
