Thoughts?

I was luckily able to watch this during work due to my job and it absolutely SHOCKED me to my core and really affected me.

I asked this at the time. As if the public couldn't think any less of them and this comes along.

billysboy · 30/01/2024 18:04

un real that it all takes so long but the arse that sexually assaulted the vulnerable woman in the car unbelievable that he got away with it

Onheretoomuch · 30/01/2024 18:24

The second episode is on next week. I dread to think what happens in it!

I've watched it. I was in an MH crisis 6yrs ago and police were involved. I had to put in a formal complaint which was upheld.

I've been diagnosed with CPTSD since.

The programme was so triggering, I wish I'd not watched it.

I’m so sorry you went through this. Have you someone you can call for support? Hope you’re ok 💐

BellaPommefritio · 30/01/2024 18:53

@Muftymich75 I felt the same, it was so harrowing to watch and quite clear to anyone with a shred of empathy that she'd been raped/assaulted before. I agree with others that this programme needs picking up by the press, and brought to the attention of people who don't watch Channel 4

I joined up just to express my outrage on this programme. I worked in police stations until 2012 and have seen and heard it all. However what made me shout at the TV was that cocky sergeant, no pun intended, who claimed the victim raped him! WHAT? Why did he drive her up the dirt path, why couldn't he move her off him, and what on earth is wrong with his wife? As for finding him not guilty, I honestly give up.

He could have stopped the car got out and radioed for help when she tried some thing .

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/01/2024 21:05

He could have, but he didn't because he's a rapist who raped her.

Creatureofhabit87 · 30/01/2024 21:38

Wow! I am shocked they all just get away with their behaviour!! The man who said he was sexually assaulted… it all sounded so unbelievable! The poor women with MH issues have been fully let down.

Conniethecatapillar · 30/01/2024 21:51

I feel like the police have just put this programme out as they know how corrupt they are and they want to be seen to be doing something when in fact the whole system is broken. I've no trust in the police whatsoever especially with what happened to Sarah Everard.

Turkeyhen · 30/01/2024 21:53

But it doesn’t show them doing something. Literally everyone got off scot free!

IClaudine · 30/01/2024 21:53

I have just finished watching this. I think the cocky officer is a scandal waiting to unfold.

Hels20 · 30/01/2024 21:54

@TooBigForMyBoots - I don’t think he raped her. I think that is a v strong comment. I think he took complete advantage of her but I don’t think she didn’t consent. She never alleged rape. She just thought afterwards it was wrong of him to have sex with her - which it totally was.

Under the law, if a person's ability to resist or consent to sexual acts is substantially impaired because of a mental or physical condition, and the other person is aware that this impairment affects their ability to resist or consent, then they can be charged for rape if they commit sex acts with the impaired party.

They didn't catch any though ....

Onheretoomuch · 30/01/2024 22:14

Why hasn’t there been outrage about this across the media today? It doesn’t make sense!

CreateHope · 30/01/2024 22:15

BBC news is covering a different case from Thames Valley 😩

Agreed

MILTOBE · 30/01/2024 22:24

That was one of the most shocking documentaries I've seen, particularly when you get to the end.

That Cocking's defence - "I saw a horrible road traffic accident twenty years ago, so when I saw a drunk woman who didn't know what she was doing, I took her to a quiet place where I knew there was no CCTV and she got out of the back of the car and opened my door and climbed on top of me. It's because I have PTSD."

The guy at the hospital: "Well, a cyclist went past and I called her a fucking bitch." And nobody said "Well you were wearing a camera on your head and no cyclist went past at that point."

Really, really shocking. And the jury who decided Cocking was innocent was just as bad, too.

Oh come on. She said he'd taken advantage of her. She was so drunk she was being thrown out of a nightclub. He offered to take her home when a female police officer was dealing with her. He was a predatory man who parked his car in a wooded area where he knew there was no CCTV. He knew that having sex on duty with a member of the public was illegal and would result in a prison sentence - that's whether she's drunk or not.

It was basically a recruitment drive for people who behaving disgustingly to join the police.
