A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. Finished A Time Called You - really liked it.

I'm currently 3 eps from the end of Geongseuong Creature and am enjoying both Park Seo-joon and Han So-hee in it. There's been some great rifle action. It's like a weird mix of Indiana Jones and Alien.
I'm also about 3 pages from the end of Lost Japan which has been fascinating despite being quite a few years out of date now (first written in the 1990s). I'm now wanting to read more about Japanese history but not sure where to start.

PMY is back on form in MMH. She’s been an absolute buzzkill in her recent dramas but she’s lifting this one and showing her charm again. The two weather-themed ones were awful.

I also started MMH this week and due to being I'll I am almost all caught up already. So addicted - it is so good. I was literally cackling with glee at the BTS moment at the end of episode 6. Loving Park Min Young in this role - it is quite different from her last few and I think she is smashing it.

And I've just watched the last ep of BTS Monuments and absolutely bawled my eyes out from when Jin had his hair cut 😭😭😭

I'm currently out of drama-slump swamp with Captivating the King (Netflix); Night Flower; My Happy Ending (Viki) and LFiS. Apart from MHE, they envelop me in a sea of indulgent happiness for the leads' developing relationships. CtK had an abs baring sweaty, wood-chopping slave, catching the eye of a virtuous widow 😳

I'm also a traitor - been watching American Nightmare (Netflix) and Traitors. Must recapture FN status ⬅️🏃🏻‍♀️

Am I the only one who now has subtitles on even for shows in English?

I was a bit distracted during Doctor Slump so I’m not sure if it was my inattentiveness or the show. The first episode felt a bit workmanlike with all the backstory and exposition. I’m hoping it hits its stride in ep 2. They cannot waste a cast this good, surely. 🙏

I quite liked episode 1, but that surgery scene made my teeth itch. Wtf was going on? They had a frigging anaesthetist and a surgeon RIGHT THERE. Is anyone in this room medically trained? Hello! Nurses!? Is anyone going to help?? Are we doing fluid replacement or a few units of blood? Or anything other than apply gauze? No??

It's the anaesthetist that prescribes and administers the drugs in theatres, so why is the surgeon getting prosecuted? Was it just as owner of the clinic? Why was the anaesthetist there? Unknown. Because he did shite all. I detect a set-up.

Also Ha-Neuls boss. WHAT a wanker. He can stick the dissertation up his hole.

Agree on the surgery scenes. Dissertation is a mistranslation too - it was clear they were talking about academic papers for publication.

Yeah that makes more sense - he can still stick the research paper up his hole though 🤣

I honestly got anxiety during that surgery scene. That would be one hell of a staff debrief. Compulsory training and supervised practice for everyone. The thought of the incident forms alone is giving me palpitations 😱

Just checking in to thank @MigsandTiggs for recommending Kidnapping Day. DP and I are just taking a breather after the ep 3 cliffhanger and so far it's not put a foot wrong across such a broad range of content from quite disturbingly dark to light and cosy.
I totally failed to recognise Yoon Kye-sang from The Greatest Love, where he played one of the loveliest 2ML ever! TBF, he did wear glasses in that, which as we know is Foolproof Disguise. 🤓
