Has anyone started watching Criminal Record on Apple TV? I think it’s fairly new out. First couple of episodes seem really good so far and have made me jump twice!

I watched it last night, I thought it was really good, shame it is on weekly, looking forward to next episode. It had a good cast I thought.

Plutoquest · 14/01/2024 09:50

Yes, it’s a great cast. I was a bit gutted I couldn’t continue to binge watch it. Apple TV is just streets ahead in quality of programmes compared to Netflix. So many good things to watch!

Loving it. Peter Capaldi in ‘silently chilling’ mode is terrifying…

I remember when Cush Jumbo was in the Lake District thingy and after watching her first on The Good Wife I was surprised to find she was actually from Croydon 😂

My husband is finding it hard to see a beloved Dr Who playing the baddie, but we’re really my enjoying it.

I just don’t know if he’s just upset because they screwed up that old case or if there much more to it, and definitely think that the colleague he went to visit to his house didn’t get rid of all the old (probably) incriminating papers.

Netaporter · 18/01/2024 06:30

Excellent episode this week. The plot thickens indeed…!

SpttyMaldoon · 18/01/2024 10:58

Oh interesting….we watched the last episode of Fargo last night, we’ll watch this tonight.

TheOriginalFrench · 21/01/2024 04:36

Gosh, I had to scroll and scroll to find this thread. Was beginning to think I was the only viewer.

Quite why I’m thinking about this show at 4.30am is a puzzle - but it’s occurred to me that the retired cop in the wheelchair might have been in the van that crashed into Errol Mathis. If the Met set up Mathis to be convicted and urgently needed to stop him getting away …

Certainly there’s some guilt or obligation on Hegarty’s part: having a key to the man’s house and regularly dropping off groceries.

Also curious (and slightly queasy) about the young woman who’s always asleep at Hegarty’s own home. Is she his daughter or a ward for some other reason?

And I wish I liked June Lenker’s husband / partner (?) more …

I worry for Mathis’s lawyer and pray the writer doesn’t see her as disposable. But I am crossing my fingers the tech guy in the stake-out van will come through eventually.

All in all, I don’t want to like it, but I do want justice and right to triumph, so I’ll have to keep watching.

New episode is up!

I have a horribly busy day and have been looking forward to watching this after The Traitors - but I’m awfully tempted to watch it now …

Plutoquest · 24/01/2024 22:49

Just finished the most recent episode. I’m still enjoying the series so far but prefer having all episodes available. I find that I have forgotten some of the plot and character names by the following week! Must be my age though 🙃.

Looks as if most people feel the same way as you do, @Plutoquest, judging by this thread.

I agree it’s something people would have preferred to binge.

Netaporter · 25/01/2024 17:36

I quite like the ritual of weekly watches for Apple stuff. It’s always high quality and worth the wait IME. Loved this week’s ep with the revelation of the daughter and Patrick’s relationship….

TheOriginalFrench · 25/01/2024 17:44

Yes - that was a proper revelation.

Though the wheelchair bound cop’s MS has shattered my pet theory.

And presumably that was June’s partner moonlighting as an undercover sleuth? Hope that doesn’t end badly …

Netaporter · 25/01/2024 17:46

Ooh hadn’t thought of that about the husband. Think it’ll be Jed Mecurio level of twisty turny tho.

TheOriginalFrench · 25/01/2024 17:55

I could be wrong! But one earlier scene was directed to make us think he was planning to take some action.

Plutoquest · 25/01/2024 18:02

@TheOriginalFrench oh you could be right. I thought there was something strange with the exchange between June and her husband but never thought anymore about it!!

Yesterday’s episode was fantastic. Though so, so depressing.

I keep being proved wrong! Which is kind of excellent.

And I’m glad we now have more information on Hegarty’s domestic life and … challenges.

The depiction of June’s domestic life - the push and pull and competing demands and utter heartbreak, and the way she had to utilise a trope to disguise an even more troubling truth - outstanding.

Netaporter · 01/02/2024 15:35

Loved yesterday’s ep. Slightly confused tho. Was the black guy June met at the police station Jake’s Dad? I thought I heard him say ‘’Dad?’

SapatSea · 03/02/2024 10:01

I'm not a big fan of cop shows but liking this. Peter Capaldi makes my skin crawl in this

Tardyjo · 05/02/2024 09:53

I am loving this - it’s quite prime suspect in its style

Plutoquest · 07/02/2024 21:43

Just finished episode 6. I wonder if Hegarty will come clean or not next week. I can’t see it somehow though!

OP posts:
TheOriginalFrench · 07/02/2024 22:14

So frustrating to have stopped there!

Netaporter · 08/02/2024 06:07

There are 8 eps in this series. Absolutely he won’t confess I don’t think. The next two eps will see a LOD-style unmasking of the far right group elements embedded in the police I reckon.

Heggarty is a master of NLP. Great character.

TheOriginalFrench · 08/02/2024 07:17

Neurolinguistic …?

Natural language …?

Googled - none the wiser …

Netaporter · 08/02/2024 07:49

@TheOriginalFrench sorry it is Neurolinguistic programming. It is used a lot in sales training. It can be used nefariously however. Derren Brown is a master of it (for entertainment purposes, not suggesting he is an evil overlord 😂)

I think the dinner conversation June had with her DH’s work colleague about re-writing memories becomes more relevant as time goes on.

lazymum99 · 08/02/2024 09:06

I’ve been looking for a thread on this. Came to it late, binged and didn’t realise that not all episodes had been dropped.
I think Junes partner is a bit shady. Peter Capaldi is somewhat frightening. He is using the method of rewriting memories with Patrick who must have seen who killed his mother. So sad with Errol’s mother
