New host Kiell Smith-Bynoe.

I love Kiell but I'm not sure if he's right for this. I'm prepared to be surprised though!

Dont think you'd want to go too near the oven with Toyahs! Xmas Grin
Obvs would need a cook

SoupDragon · 21/12/2023 21:55

I think probably Toyah. Solid in the other two rounds, best in this one I think.

Toyah at Drury Lane was the first concert I ever went to

Not sure singing to close the show was wise.

EveryKneeShallBow · 21/12/2023 21:59

Kerry was robbed and not impressed with sharp dressed man. Even though I worshipped Toyah back in the day.

Jellykat · 21/12/2023 22:00

I went to see her too *@SoupDragon around the 'Sheep farming in Barnet' days

Choux · 21/12/2023 22:00

The singing was a bit karaoke. Plus it seems a bit unfair she and the judges get to dress up for that but the other contestants are in their regular clothes. And the models don't even get to dance in the stage.

SleepingisanArt · 21/12/2023 22:02

Hmm, didn't like the new presenter. Felt he was a bit wooden..... 😭

I admire these non sewing celebrities who are up for a challenge and actually manage to produce things in the time given.

Jellykat · 21/12/2023 22:02

Have to say, some of Toyah and Roberts 'Sunday lunches' were good fun during lockdown

NashvilleQueen · 21/12/2023 22:26

I'd love a Christmas tree dress

SoupDragon · 21/12/2023 23:01

I think all the presenters have come across as wooden when they start out. He was very relaxed in the non scripted bits with the contestants I thought.

I can't wait for the new series but it's probably 5 months away!

I thought Kiell was great - less try-hard and more natural than some others.

I popped in to see what posters thought of the new presenters style after I switched off 5 minutes into the episode because I couldnt take to his voice or his very flat presenting.

"Flat" is sort of how he is - more "dry" than flat though.

I liked kielle on this - very likeable

I much prefer a dry and gentler presentation style than the frankly childish antics of Joe Lycett or Sara Pascoe’s attempts at an over the top children’s presenter vibe (and this despite the fact I love her intelligent stand up). It suits the feel of the show and makes the contestants the most important people. Sewing Bee shouldn’t be a vehicle for the presenter to do a five-minute bit to camera every so often. Kiell got it just right, I thought. Looking forward to the new series, now.

Virgo1958 · 22/12/2023 10:58

Especially at the singing bit in the end looked so small! Judges have a great sense of humour.
Toyah seemed very keen to sing.

ArcaneWireless · 22/12/2023 12:07

I preferred Kiell.

And your post says how I feel @AlwaysForksAndMarbles 🪡 🧵

I’m with you on this 👍

I like Kiell! Did think Kerry was a bit robbed but her final offering was perhaps considered too plain - she aced the puffa jacket challenge by a country mile though! I seem to recall an awful sing a long on the last christmas special, that ramsay woman who I cannot bear...

Sausagenbacon · 22/12/2023 15:49

I think I'm too invested in Ghosts, as I hated seeing Keill present.
And who are these supposed celebrities? Apart from Toyah, I hadn't heard of any of them.
Sewing Bee often crosses the line into stupid (who bothers to make Xmas stockings?) And this was one of those times.

mynameiscalypso · 22/12/2023 15:57

I loved this. I thought Kiell was great and the banter he had with Hammed was really fun. I also have a massive crush on Jessica so I'd watch her in anything.

Unusually, I know them all this year. Jessica and Kerry are both comedians and have both been on Taskmaster. I've seen Hammed in Black Ops (BBC) and Wheel of Time (Prime).

I want to make Christmas stockings (I have had the fabric for a couple of years but not got round to it) so, not at all stupid from my point of view. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've avidly watched every Sewing Bee since the start and was so looking forward to this one. However, I just could not get into it at all. I think it was the presenter, he was 'acting' and it showed, not a natural at all. I nearly fell asleep twice! Anyway, I met a friend today, also a Sewing Bee fan, and she 100% agreed and said that she to could not get on with it and wanted to switch over to something else. I hope he is not a permanent fixture Sad because I fear he will just make my favourite programme unwatchable. All the previous presenters have been great and engaging, this one was not.

Were you watching a different episode from the one I saw? Just starting to wonder exactly what it is about this perfectly normal, amusing and professional presenter which seems to have elicited these negative responses…
