Why was the fire escape locked?

I felt sorry for Simon tonight. Losing his job and his dad being miles away.

I missed quite a bit tonight. Where was the fire and do we know how or who started it?

Fire was in that office above the builders yard I think. I was only half watching, but I think Ed was kipping down there, having been let down by a friend who was supposed to be giving him a bed for the night. I think he knocked over an electric fire.

But I missed a bit so I didn't understand that when his son went in to rescue him, Ed wasn't there, but came walking down the street.

The fire fighters suggested the fire was deliberate as the place was reeking of white spirit. Dopey Michael was passing and saw the fire and ran in thinking Ed was there. Ed said he went to the chip shop and came back to find it ablaze. He did look uneasy and guilty when Craig questioned him at the hospital.

Simon's acting was actually rather good tonight.

Lol, it was locked from the outside and the message clearly states, "Keep Clear" - fire escapes are lock-free on the inside

last I saw he was settling down for bed then they showed us some plugs/electrical stuff then next thing you know it’s on fire, Michael goes in and then Ed comes running down the street having dropped his chips

Is Simon's storyline a setup to him leaving the show? Maybe he could go and join Peter.

PC Clodhopper seemed very gleeful in relating the suspect fire at Ed’s yard.
His face and ears seemed to take on a life of their own. I’m not surprised Blond woman detective person recoiled away from him, I thought he was going to come over all unnecessary at one point.
