A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Our list is cumulative so includes recommendations and favourites from all previous threads. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. A kinder society globally would be great, and I agree it's a big ask because romantic Kdramas are pure escapism. Comments on SM, calling out sex based inequalities/bad behaviour irl are often countered by Koreans saying don't judge it by Western standards, so they, themselves are in no hurry to change how males treat females. Several popular Korean vloggers have also been warning foreign females that Korean men are not as portrayed in kdramas. #predators #avoid_hongdae 😄

Sakura I've been recc'ing Twinkling Watermelon to everyone, but if you have Viki The Eighth Sense is really good - its a BL set around a University surf club. Bit angsty but great chemistry and really beautiful cinematography and soundtrack.

Hi, I've just finished watching Miraculous Brothers K Drama Netflix - unusual, sad, funny, hilarious etc etc. Really enjoyed it, 16 episodes, they're not sure if there's going to be a season 2

It's definitely melo/romance/coming of age & not a comedy , but it is one of my favoirite things I've watched this year .... have you seen Semantic Error? I LOVED that one, just a great enemies to lovers romcom that happens to be BL...

Welcome @Marie1331 ! 👋 Was this your first foray into kdrama or are you a seasoned viewer? If you are new to it, we have lots of recommendations in the OP.

Semantic Error is also one of my favourites TheLoup. I liked the college setting of TES but some of the themes were a bit too serious/traumatic for me. Have you seen To My Star yet? Or tried any of the Thai ones? There's a very hot (and very horny) architect/bike mechanic in Love in the Air (if you can get past the rather clunky repetitive shots and direction). I've also enjoyed some daft Taiwanese ones as well. There's one about a college boy who can hear ghosts - silly, but fun.

Ahhh the Instagram story of V with the shaved head and bow on top 🎀 as someone said up thread, he can slay whatever hair he has. (The same cannot be said of Harry Styles in my opinion who I had a vague crush on which abruptly ended when he shaved his head a few weeks ago 😅).

We have started Call It Love and really enjoying it. I wish^^ Disney had English subtitles though (not just closed captions).

I completely agree. There’s a lot of lip smacking, inhaling and exhaling being captioned. I’m about 30 mins from the end of the finale. What I can say with certainty is that almost none of them are getting enough cardio and every one of them has a fatty liver. The whole season is approx 10% meaningful glances, 15% drinking too much soju and 20% walking veeeeeeery sloooooooowly. It’s been lovely though. One of my highest scorers for this year.
