Bobby seems a nice guy but I couldn’t see Annabelle being underneath him on the leader board
it will be interesting to see if Layton is given a ball room number next week

do we know any details on Nigel and his injury?
Katya was heartbroken, I have warmed to her and what on earth she saw in Sean Lock is beyond me

He explained last night that he was meant to jump off something and be caught by one of the dancers but fell and broke a rib!

I don't understand Motsi calling it hate towards Layton, and other people on this thread! Just because you're asking for something to be fair, doesn't mean it's hate! Ffs. I've read loads of comments on Facebook and Instagram, they just say Layton shouldn't be in the competition - how is that hate?

PastorCarrBonarra · 03/12/2023 09:50

I like all of them. I think the right people were eliminated at the right time with the possible exception of Krishnan/Angela R whom I’d have switched. I really don’t mind who gets to the final and wins now. But I’m hoping for Annabel in the final because although I obviously haven’t seen the voting figures I suspect she’s the only one who can beat Ellie to the glitterball so it adds a bit of interest and jeopardy. Ellie is the deserving winner but Annabel could pip her and that’s quite exciting.

If the talented and lovely Ellie loses it will be a shame, but she’s massively boosted her career having been let go by Corrie this year, and she’s allegedly got together with Vito having been cheated on by her partner at the same time as losing her job. So she’s sorted. And no one would seriously mind losing to Annabel who has worked hard and improved and connected with the audience.

I agree with pp who haven't connected with Strictly this year.
Even the line up didn't interest me much.
I wanted to like Bobby and Nigel as I am an Eastenders fan and love(d) their characters.
I wanted Amanda to do well and I really like Angela S as a personality. KGM really grew on me.
Amanda leaving, the fix to keep Angela R in until Blackpool, Layton being Layton every show, and a load of other stuff has really ruined this series for me.

Wolfofallstreets · 03/12/2023 09:58

When someone says theres hates towards a particular contestant load of people come out going, “I don’t hate them I just don’t think they’re very good dancer” or whatever – they don’t seem to realise the hate comments may not be directed at them but at other people. There is a lot of vile hate out there for Layton (I dont love him) and there was a lot of hate out there for Angela R. Social media is vile

Wolfofallstreets · 03/12/2023 09:59

By the way, I’ve massively connected with Strictly this year, I think it’s been the best in years

IsDieHardAChristmasFilm · 03/12/2023 09:53

This sort of thing

I don't think blatant homophobia (and a fair bet, racism) is the same as people saying he has an unfair advantage in the competition. I mean, he probably won't win because he has so much dance experience. I loved watching him dance last night. It wouldn't even bother me if he won. They are celebs. The main point of them going onto Strictly is either for them to improve their profile/ move onto other things. All of the people in the show would have done that by now. The rest of it is pure entertainment for us, which they have done.

Choux · 03/12/2023 10:00

We don't know the specifics of Nigel's injury but if he was planning to move straight onto an active acting role in January he could struggle. Rib injuries can take a long time to heal.

I once had a skiing fall and was still getting twinges of pain six months later. This was probably a more severe injury than Nigel's - i had broken three ribs - but I had a few weeks of waking up each morning knowing my painkillers had worn off so being scared to move. To get some more painkillers I would have to sit up and I knew that would be agony.

I wouldn't be surprised if Strictly look hard into how he was injured - did the dancers who were supposed to catch him make a mistake? - and give him the £15k he would have got for making the semis as a sweetener to stop him making a claim for lost earnings.

Bluevelvetsofa · 03/12/2023 10:24

So Bobby out next week and a final between Layton, Ellie and Annabel.

If you base the outcome on learning a new skill, then Bobby should be in front. The only one with no dance experience or training. Ellie was at theatre school, so will have had that as part of the education. Annabel did ballet, which accounts for her posture and elegant arms. Layton has the most talent and ability by far, but is a professional working with a professional.

Everyone has a starting favourite, then those that grow on you and those you thought would be good, but aren’t. I think Ellie will win, because she appeals to the majority. Layton’s dancing looks stunning, but he is the most ringer of ringers and that puts people off. Annabel has the story this year and the experience has undoubtedly been beneficial for her, but, that aside, she’s not got much personality. Maybe that’s deliberate. There are stances she’s taken with which I disagree, so that has some impact. Bobby is the weakest dancer, but probably the most improved from a standing start.

PantsToItAll · 03/12/2023 10:36

I think people are saying it isn’t hate as they are assuming the comments are what has been seen in the mainstream and on here ie he’s a pro he shouldn’t be competing (which isn’t hate just opinion). I imagine people are like myself and don’t use other SM so aren’t as aware of the real hate out there which judging from the screenshot above is pretty horrific. Isn’t that a SM thing too people think they can say the most disgusting things without any thought. I am not a fan of the whole SM thing for that reason.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 03/12/2023 10:37

The above example of hate towards Layton is absolutely appalling, poor lad. Very different to people on here saying ‘such a ringer, but that was pretty good! Btw, prokita is a ride isn’t he?’. Just because pp haven’t seen the hate (I mean I don’t go on the cesspits of fb comments anymore!) doesn’t mean it isn’t out there. Awful.

I don’t want him to win because I want either Ellie to win on merit, or Annabel on ‘journey’ (also bc I LOOOOOOVE Jojo with all my heart) but I hope he makes the final because he is entertaining, and I hope he’s had a massive career boost from doing this. He deserves it!

I agree some of the comments towards Angela R were shocking too. I like strictly because it’s a cute way to spend cold and dark autumn evenings and I text my mum while we watch along together from 400 miles apart - discussing the clothes and ‘oooh that was wobbly/shit/amazing!’. I cannot fathom the awfulness of posting hatred like the above. Have those people tried, like, turning off the telly and getting a fucking life?

greencheetah · 03/12/2023 10:37

I think Annabel will go next week. She was pretty underwhelming yesterday.

Ellie will win.

Sunbird24 · 03/12/2023 10:46

I hadn’t seen any of the awful comments about Layton (or AngelaR) on SM for various reason, but that example is utterly disgusting and I hope the people posting things like that were swiftly reported and banned.

I really don’t actually care who wins, we’ve all usually forgotten by the next year anyway…

theconfidenceofwho · 03/12/2023 10:48

Gooseysgirl · 03/12/2023 08:46

I don't hate Layton at all and I have really enjoyed lots of his dances (adored their paso last night). BUT, I have not yet and will not be voting for him. He is a dancer with years of performance experience, and in my view should not be in this show. I don't see a 'journey' at all, only a series of show dances. As for the awful and unacceptable abuse he has been getting, I think the producers are big time at fault for bringing him into the show in the first place and it was entirely predictable that this would happen. I hope that the BBC are giving him the support that he needs.

I completely agree with this.

Ellie for the win - she's fab and has shown so much progress throughout the series.

To be fair, Annabel has actually progressed the most - it's phenomenal how much better she is now compared to week 1. Given how this series has panned out, I'd actually be ok if she won!

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 03/12/2023 11:09

God that’s grim @IsDieHardAChristmasFilm
i don’t twitter or FB or Instagram as can’t stand stuff like that.

I don’t want Layton to win as he’s a ringer. No more did I want DVO or Peter Andre or any other ringer quite frankly.

I want
Annabel for the win. Ellie id be ok with as well. Think I’d be miffed if it’s Bobby for 15 minutes then I’d get over it. Layton would probably annoy me all evening then I’d get over it and on with my life till next year!

SequinsandStiIettos · 03/12/2023 11:11

Sean Lock is beyond me
It was, as others have said, Seann with two ns (!)
Saen Lock, who passed away two years ago was friends with Bill Bailey...

When I told my friend Sean Lock I was doing Strictly he said: “You realise you are just flinging yourself into the sea of public opinion?” I said: “Yep.” He said: “Look, you could emerge triumphantly astride two dolphins like Neptune – or be dashed on the rocks of public ignominy.” It turned out to be the dolphins. Sean couldn’t believe it! He was furious. Wink Grin

Lottapianos · 03/12/2023 11:17

'He’s an amazing dancer but it’s all a bit boring now. There’s no mystery about him at all, we all know exactly how the dance is going to pan out before the music even starts.'

Spot on. That paso last night was like every other Layton dance - some of it was flashy and spectacular and brilliant, the side by side stuff was out of sync (always), it was all a bit chaotic and overly showy. I thought he was crazily overmarked. I don't blame Nikita for making the most of his physical flexibility and putting all the tricks in, but it means there's not much light and shade in Layton's performance

I’ve rewatched it a few times since last night and I can’t believe how out of Sync they are at the beginning. Shirley needs glasses 😬

love that

EvilRingahBitch · 03/12/2023 11:31

I'd have preferred to see Layton's paso with just him and Nikita dancing more as a couple but that's musicals week for you. I thought his shaping was amazing.

BogRollBOGOF · 03/12/2023 12:10

I've been catching up this morning.

Ellie did a great job seamlessly flowing around all the other dancers. I think based on performance and popularity that she's the most likely contender to win.

Annabel's was beautifully danced, but it's a naturally understated dance compared to the others this week. I still think she's likely to have the 3rd place in the final assuming Ellie and Layton go through.

Layton's was spectacular. It did display his talents, and I liked the costuming and make up. I felt like it was stretching the definition of a Paso Doble though, and that's been a consistent issue most weeks. As a musicals extravaganza it worked.

Bobby got lucky with Nigel's misfortune. The lift was clearly wobbly and I don't know how he ended up with more marks than Annabel. He would have been in dance-off territory, and on wobbly territory to be saved. It wasn't the ideal dynamic for Dirty Dancing anyway.

It's a shame that Nigel's had to withdraw so abruptly. I'm glad that they've gone for a non-elimination week. I think the likely outcome is an extra week to Bobby, and Nigel was more likely to make the semi then be knocked out due to variations in consistency.
It must be hard getting pretty much through the week of practicing and be deprived of the opportunity to perform.

Clawdy · 03/12/2023 12:11

I didn't realise Ellie had lost her job on Corrie, I thought she chose to leave?
