If Layton tops the leaderboard then, even if he is bottom of the public vote, it's going to take a very specific combination of scores for the other three to land him in the dance-off. That's why I was a bit suspicious of Annabel being bottom of the leaderboard despite Bobby messing up his routine. The producers have too much power to engineer the final they want at this stage.

Yes agree…the producers have too much influence/power !

Musermum · 03/12/2023 00:41

Just watched late. I really didn't enjoy tonight at all. Maybe it's because I wasn't watching live. I'm gutted Nigel is gone, he was my favourite. Not always perfect but always entertaining, and seems so sincere and lovely too. Loved his very dry wit. I'm out on final night and I'm not sure I'm that bothered now. Still want Ellie and Vito to win.

HamBone · 03/12/2023 00:52

Catching up now. I really enjoyed tonight’s show, especially the pros “A Chorus Line” routine.

I liked all four dances, it’s a shame that Bobby messed up that lift. Ellie is so good at acting out a part, I was really drawn in. Annabel has made such amazing progress as a dancer. Layton, well, it was spectacular, but I just can’t silence the niggling thought that this is also his day job, in contrast to the others, especially Annabel. 🤷

TheMadGardener · 03/12/2023 01:28

Sad for Nigel and Katya.

I would like Ellie and Annabel to make the final. I'd rather Bobby went home next week than Annabel.

I love Ellie and Vito but this wasn't their best dance. Too much faffing with the other dancers. Felt like Ellie and Vito were only in hold together doing quickstep for about 10 seconds total.

Layton's dance was obviously very good but not sure I would have known it was supposed to be paso doble if they hadn't told me.

Annabel and Johannes - I liked the dance, I love Wicked (but have heard that song sung MUCH better!), maybe it wasn't massively exciting but once again I think they made an emotional connection with the audience. Will be interesting to see what dances they get next week.

Bobby - well, that song has just been used far too much and danced to much better. How they got more marks than Annabel with that shonky lift I've no idea. Unless the judges had an agenda to keep him off the bottom to make next week more interesting.

ilovesooty · 03/12/2023 01:31

I wouldn't have scored Bobby higher than Annabel either.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 03/12/2023 06:00

I've been voting for Annabel and Bobby from the start with the third vote going mostly to Nigel or Angela S, or one of the others in the earlier weeks, but this week I did find Annabel's dance a tad bland and boring. Bobby's had more content and despite the botched lift, he did really well and it was fun to watch, so I can see why he was scored higher than Annabel.

billysboy · 03/12/2023 06:54

Bobby seems a nice guy but I couldn’t see Annabelle being underneath him on the leader board
it will be interesting to see if Layton is given a ball room number next week

do we know any details on Nigel and his injury?
Katya was heartbroken, I have warmed to her and what on earth she saw in Sean Lock is beyond me

ChessieFL · 03/12/2023 06:57

@billysboy I think you mean Seann Walsh not Sean Lock!

xsquared · 03/12/2023 07:27

To get this far into the competition after 6 years and have that taken away is of course heartbreaking for Katya.

Wish people wouldn't keep bringing up Seann . She has achieved so much more since, but that event seems to bee the only thing she gets associated with.

It felt a little flat without Nigel and Katya dancing last night, and their rehearsal footage looked fantastic. I hope he gets better soon.

I think Lakita really earned that 40.

Ellie's QS had too much faffing and was too distracted by extra dancers and paraphernalia.

Annabel and Jojo was just lovely, not wow though. Singing was abysmal. Scores much more realistic than last week.

Bobby and Dianne's I felt was too frantic and lacking in discipline. Botched iconic lift quite badly.

I think I prefer Bobby over Annabel for the 3rd person in the final.

covetingthepreciousthings · 03/12/2023 07:28

Is it next week when they do two dances?

Yes @covetingthepreciousthings .

Clawdy · 03/12/2023 08:01

Will be interesting to see how they get through tonight's programme. Maybe the judges will dance....then Claudia and Tess will do a jive!!

MerryMidwinter · 03/12/2023 08:19

The thing I dislike most about Layton is that every dance is about him and his style. He can’t/doesn’t do anything more traditional and it feels unfair when everyone else has to.

I wonder if they'll use some pre recorded bits that were meant to be on ITT. They did a nice behind the scenes with the judges this week showing their wardrobes, maybe something similar.

But yes I'd love the judges do a dance and Claude Grin

Layton is taught each routine, he doesn’t choreograph the dances.

Figgygal · 03/12/2023 08:38

Aw Katya crying really hit me in the feels

PantsToItAll · 03/12/2023 08:40

I think claud said they were revealing the two dances each couple will be performing next week so guessing that will be providing most of the filler tonight. Okay maybe a longer judges section. Be good if they’d comment on prior weeks too to get a feel of progress etc. I’ll still watch even though it’s a pointless show tonight.

I loved Laytons dance. I think it was the music mostly - something upbeat and powerful. I thought Nikita showed the shaping of paso much better which highlighted Layton wasn’t a pro at ballroom/latin but just a pro dancer of general style. Maybe it was Nikita white shirt that helped as stood out more for the arm shaping compare to Layton’s dark shirt sleeves. I also agree with PP who said the camera angle was all wrong for the final section. It was suppose to be quite a finale with Layton being life’s high over Nikita’s head but it was filmed side on view which too away the drama of it. Shame.

Annabell is my favourite but it was little boring tonight. I think not knowing the music didn’t help me enjoy it. I don’t think dancing as a child counts as experience. I did ballet and tap all through primary years and can’t dance for toffee. I think she does have a natural ability for it though which is different to experience and training. She is also just naturally elegant and classy which aids a lot of her dances.

Ellie I wasn’t keen on at all. It felt too musically which is known is suppose to
be the point of this week but it was too kcuh story telling and extra dancers. I think just showed me I’m not that keen on musicals week!

Bobbys best bit of dancing was the final part of his VT! That was fun. The dirty dancing was cliche and the lift just didn’t work. Dianne annoys me no end. She never seems authentic - very much got that competitive plastered on smile everything is rosey vibe all the time which is fake. I thought she was really rude saying she’d never trust any of the make pros to do that lift but she trusted Bobby. Yeah alright love you were clinging to his arm for dear life up there so not sure you meant that. Bobby himself is good but I don’t think he’s as good as the other 3 and I’d like to see him leave next week.

Gutted about Nigel. Wasn’t his biggest fan but didn’t dislike him and feel rotten for him having to leave in those circumstances. I think their Charleston would have given much needed joy to the program on sat and we all missed the uplift in atmosphere it would have provided. He was clearly in a lot pain holding his rib.

Gooseysgirl · 03/12/2023 08:46

I don't hate Layton at all and I have really enjoyed lots of his dances (adored their paso last night). BUT, I have not yet and will not be voting for him. He is a dancer with years of performance experience, and in my view should not be in this show. I don't see a 'journey' at all, only a series of show dances. As for the awful and unacceptable abuse he has been getting, I think the producers are big time at fault for bringing him into the show in the first place and it was entirely predictable that this would happen. I hope that the BBC are giving him the support that he needs.

When I saw Layton and Nikita walk down the stairs in their outfits I felt relieved and it gave me high hopes that they were simply going to dance in the way the dance style expects them to, just like all the others stars do, but no.

It was just another Saturday night of watching the Layton Show.

He’s an amazing dancer but it’s all a bit boring now. There’s no mystery about him at all, we all know exactly how the dance is going to pan out before the music even starts.

DontBeAPrickDarren · 03/12/2023 08:58

Haven’t seen last night’s show yet but on the subject of previous experience I think the thing each celeb is “known for” has a huge impact. So Danny Mac may have had oodles of dance experience but was known for straight acting on Hollyoaks. Debbie McGee known for being Mrs Daniels, not as a dancer. Layton’s downfall is that he is “known for” being a West End performer (not like say Denise Van Outen who would be presenter first in most people’s minds, not performer) but not only that his role was in Billy Elliott, a show about a fantastic young dancer from the North. There’s no jeopardy or journey for the audience to hook onto for Layton in the way there is for other celebs because he feels like a finished article. I don’t doubt in some quarters the fact he’s gay and in this year’s same sex couple also causes a lot of the hate he gets (not on here necessarily but online elsewhere) and do wonder if he’d been partnered with a female dancer would it have been different.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 03/12/2023 09:03

I enjoy watching a journey. That’s why I love Annabel. I don’t enjoy watching Layton at all as he isn’t what Strictly is about for me.

mydogisthebest · 03/12/2023 09:27

I agree about Dianne talking utter bollocks about not trusting a pro to do that lift but trusting Bobby! A pro, quite rightly, would do it a hundred times better.

I am disliking Dianne more and more as the weeks go by and not very keen on Bobby, For me, his dance was the worst last night and he should have been bottom of the board.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 03/12/2023 09:41

I agree about Dianne talking utter bollocks about not trusting a pro to do that lift but trusting Bobby! A pro, quite rightly, would do it a hundred times better.

I was just coming on to say the same! No way does Bobby look like he has anywhere near the strength or stability of one of the pros! Given that, she was very brave/foolhardy to take the risk with him.

LovedMyLastNameItHadToGo · 03/12/2023 09:42

Realised I haven’t really ‘connected’ to SCD this year. I can’t describe it but no one’s story really stands out to me. Even my kids are not into it in the same way as previous years.

Angrycat2768 · 03/12/2023 09:46

I've always found Dianne irritating. She is far too overexcited and behaves like a teenager when shes in her 30's. She overacts so much its ridiculous. The 'I would trust Bobby over a pro was an unnecessary thing to say when everyone saw her looking hesitant in both lifts. It made both of them look ridiculous.
