Just curious, but I wonder who was ‘mum’ to Bobby, after Jade died? Anyone know?

Houseplanter · 02/12/2023 21:18

Layton seems a lovely person. Genuinely quite modest and self deprecating.

But for me Strictly has always been about a professional dancing with a celebrity novice. Layton is neither a celeb or a novice in my book. So for me he has no place on a series I have looked forward to and enjoyed for many years.

Perhaps if this is the new strictly, a changed strictly, it's just not for me any more.

There is no Layton hate from me. The producers are to blame.

MouseMinge · 02/12/2023 21:20

I think that Nigel was in with a chance of winning, not because he was the best dancer, that's Ellie, but he was very popular and although I'm sure that Ellie is really popular as well we've not seen her in a position to be tested by the public vote although I guess that could happen next week. Far more likely to be Annabel and Bobby in the bottom two though.

I think Ellie will win but if Nigel had gotten to the final I wouldn't have been surprised to see him picking up the glitter ball based on popularity alone.

I just went on a Google search for Annabel and her ballet experience. She was hugely into it as a child and talented too but started playing tennis at the age of nine and was competing in tournaments by the age of twelve. It's safe to say her ballet stopped by twelve at the latest. She's now my age and I doubt very much that her experience over forty years ago adds up to much today. That said to be so good at ballet, she's likely got some natural talent which will have helped her.

Mongrelsrbeautiful · 02/12/2023 21:28

Bobby fan here - such a beautiful boy, and fun to watch. I thought he did great, but agree the lift was rubbish.

SequinsandStiIettos · 02/12/2023 21:31

Jade died 2009. Bobby would have been six. Kate (Jeff's wife) met Bobby's Dad 2013. I'd assume she therefore had some interaction with Bobby from when he was ten/eleven but how much, no idea.

I've watched Layton's paso four times now. It's far more intricate than I realised Blush and it's the first time I've looked at Nikita in that way! Wink

ilovesooty · 02/12/2023 21:35

I'm just wondering. When they have the dance off next week, will they choose between the two dances that night, or can they choose the one they've done this week?

SequinsandStiIettos · 02/12/2023 21:40

Takes too long to stage I'd have thought? And having additional dancers to boot. And then having to recall 3 routines?
They'll choose one of the two new ones learned for the semis I reckon.
I hope they don't do a Helen and redo the paso for the final though, it's far too soon, even though I've ended up loving it.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 02/12/2023 21:46

Thoughts on this evening!
Ellie is wonderful and is most likely going to win but this wasn’t my favourite dance of hers tbh.

Layton’s dance was incredible!!! 40 well deserved I’d say. I don’t know anything about dance at all but it was amazing to watch.

Annabel and Johannes have made me cry almost every week. I don’t normally like the ‘sob story’ stuff because I am a hard faced cow, but her grief is so very recent. She is doing amazingly well to be getting out of bed in the morning, let alone doing this. Good on her, I say. I hope she makes the final. Johannes is a joy!

Oh dear Bobby.

Annabell will get my vote next week and that ofDH - undermarked

Me too

Can't afford the theatre anymore :(
It's all so expensive these days even with deals

It’s certainly more than it was. I got £30 tickets for Cabaret when it first opened with an Eddie Redmayne, so it’s possible to get a bargain.

TheShellBeach · 02/12/2023 22:07

I still think Layton will be in the bottom two next week.

Sunbird24 · 02/12/2023 22:12

Are we still just getting 3 votes next week, or will there be extra?

I still think Layton will be in the bottom two next week.

If so the other couple will know they're toast before they start.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 02/12/2023 20:29

But they've had loads of celebs who've performed in west end musicals - including Nigel. I saw Les Dennis in Hairspray, it didn't do him much good! I love Layton, think he's fantastic - tonight his was the only dance I'd want to watch again.

I think the difference is that Layton is a current performer of musicals and is cast in dancing roles. Right now. Usually others have done singing roles with a bit of group dancing or none at all. I saw Alex a Dennis in 42nd Street this year - he could barely walk in time. Bit different from Layton playing Jamie (or Angel in Rent).

cardibach · 02/12/2023 22:26

Loveveggies · 02/12/2023 20:32

This Layton hate is really tedious and unfair. Each dancer has exploited some part of their personal life story to get votes. That's part of the game. Layton is a brilliant dancer who clearly works hard and has a self deprecating humour often misinterpreted as arrogance.

I don’t hate him. He’s very talented and I like his humour. He does every dance as a show dance though (not his fault - and I don’t blame Nikita either - the judges should pull them up on it more. Shirley did once but hasn’t since) and I don’t think someone whose current job is playing dance roles on stage is appropriate for the show.

I agree.

cardibach · 02/12/2023 22:38

Les Dennis. I saw Les Dennis. Who the fuck is Alexa?

Wolfofallstreets · 02/12/2023 22:56

Will there be a results show tomorrow? If so, how? Why?

Choux · 02/12/2023 23:00

If so the other couple will know they're toast before they start.

Yes Bobby will know immediately.

AirFryerFrequentFlyer · 02/12/2023 23:56

Place marking so I can find this thread.

Absolutely gutted Nigel is out. I loved him, he was genuine, dryly witty, worked so hard and seemed to have a great partnership with Katya.
Katya looked distraught - she's so competitive ( in a good way) and he's been her best chance in yonks. Such a shame. Hope he heals ok.

I enjoyed Ellie and Vito. She makes it look so easy and joyful! And she absolutely had the QS lightness that so many contestants can't get the hang of at all.

JoJo and Annabelle actually made me a little emotional, which is unusual. It was very good and I felt a little undermarked - do they want her out next?

Can't deny Lakita was technically great (and Nikita just goes from strength to strength) but I don't feel drawn into their dances. Layton doesn't captivate me in the way Ellie (or Nigel) could.

Bobby looked amazing, really suits looking like he was born in a much earlier century! But that lift - Craig was right, it didn't go terribly well.

AirFryerFrequentFlyer · 02/12/2023 23:57

Twazique · 02/12/2023 19:52

The judges seems to be waffling more than usual, or am I imagining it?

Time filling as one couple down.

AirFryerFrequentFlyer · 03/12/2023 00:04

AboutYouTalk · 02/12/2023 20:05

Did Nigel say the male dancers failed to catch him??

Did the producers give them a brown envelope just beforehand?

Half in jest, half not!

AirFryerFrequentFlyer · 03/12/2023 00:05

januaryjan · 02/12/2023 20:06

Is Tom Hiddleston there tonight because he knows one of the dancers?

Layton and Nikita threw everything including the kitchen sink and next doors cat into that dance.

I saw an interview where Tim was saying he's a massive Strictly fan.

EsmaCannonball · 03/12/2023 00:29

If Layton tops the leaderboard then, even if he is bottom of the public vote, it's going to take a very specific combination of scores for the other three to land him in the dance-off. That's why I was a bit suspicious of Annabel being bottom of the leaderboard despite Bobby messing up his routine. The producers have too much power to engineer the final they want at this stage.
