And if you've now seen it, what are your thoughts?

I'm predicting I will love it no matter what. But look forward to discussing it.

Been looking forward to it for ages, just watched now.
EPIC, loved it..
So good to see David's Dr and Donna Noble teaming up again

ChocolateCakeOverspill · 25/11/2023 20:15

Loved loved loved it (but knew that mumsnet would be frothing 😂)

HamsterBanana · 25/11/2023 20:23

Binary, non binary, pronouns.

Disney made doctor who woke. Very disappointed. Barely made any sense.

Hopefully next week won't be as terrible Sad

RhannionKPSS · 25/11/2023 19:05

Rose is an appalling actor.

Donna agrees.

Horrace · 25/11/2023 20:25

Had to turn off.
Donna's daughter was a lad then the last straw was asking an alien it's preferred pronouns.
Fucking ridiculous.

Yetmorebeanstocount · 25/11/2023 20:27

Catherine Tate is brilliant. Love Donna - wonderful facial expressions.

Queen of Oz was great fun too.

concernedmumhelp · 25/11/2023 20:33

Also, "the definite article" is not a pronoun.

And the tweens and teens will know this because they have to do so much grammar for SATs.

I knew the Meep would turn out to be bad, because it was a character in a Doctor Who magazine story many years ago. (which I assume was written by the two people credited on the opening titles) Can’t remember the exact story, but it was pretty much the same plot.

My DH recognised them às 2000ad writers immediately. I liked the story. Agree the non binary Rose character was rubbsh. They couldn't act and they shoehorned the non binary stuff in too many times. Overall loved seeing DoctorDonna again.

IGotItFromAgnes · 25/11/2023 20:38

Is this Rose meant to be the same Rose that Billie Piper played or are they just reusing character names? It’s all very confusing.

SoftKittyBazinga · 25/11/2023 20:40

I think it was meant to be a tie into the past. That the Dr Donna time lord energy was flowing through and guiding the decisions. Hence the name.

SequinsandStiIettos · 25/11/2023 20:41

Different Rose and won't be time travelling with the new doctor as that character is Ruby.
You assume that Rose was in their subconscious when they chose a new name during transition.

AzureBlue99 · 25/11/2023 20:43

The last series was bad, just full of lectures and trying to shoehorn in issues. You will believe this says the BBC. This episode was even worse. It is laughable. The BBC really does live in its own bubble. And it is destroying all its programmes.

Pinkbox · 25/11/2023 20:44

Mostly loved it. Donna was my favourite companion in New Who.

Agree that they could just have had a trans character without constant reference to pronouns etc but given they also felt the need to emphasise the wheelchair, there was no way we were getting away without it being layered on thick.

exLtEveDallas · 25/11/2023 20:45

Oh hell. That was a big nope from me. What a bloody shame.

PuttingDownRoots · 25/11/2023 20:47

Confused by Roses age! Why not get an actual younger actor (trans if necessary) to play the character if they are supposed to be school age?

I actually liked the asking the alien the pronouns bit... not because of the pronouns, but because it went against the "default male" idea. However disliked that a good story is completely derailed by the irrelevance of that minor plot sideline.

Overall enjoyed.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 25/11/2023 20:47

I can forgive the trans non binary twaddle as it was how Donna survived.

No it's the name Donna's child chose for transition probably because of having the metacrisis inside them or whatever I agree it's confusing

ScremeEggs · 25/11/2023 20:53

Donna's daughter being trans though fitted into the storyline -
"I'm male," (Tennant) "I'm female" (Donna) and "I'm neither" (Rose)
Binary, binary non binary...

Kind of how the doctor is all of those things and more ..
I'll never understand people who cry that Dr Who is too woke.
What, you're Ok with a regenerating into anyone alien from the planet Gallifrey who has two hearts but if he's black, or a woman, or trans you lose your shit?! 🙄😂

Goatymum · 25/11/2023 20:54

Loved
The Meep (when it was cute!)
Dr Donna
DT

Disliked
Rose - wtf age 13 - I thought she was 18!

I didn’t even realise she was trans - the binary stuff I thought was nin-binary numbers 😆 to give me some due I was watching it on the more rubbish TV and could barely hear Donna!

KnittedCardi · 25/11/2023 20:55

According to "X" Rose was a triumph. Sums it up really.

We are taking this down as it is not in the spirit of the site.

It isn't. But congrats for showing everyone the anti mentality. Ignorant and kneejerking. Sigh.

How did they emphasise the wheelchair? Other than making the point that our surroundings render us disabled (ie stairs to a spaceship) ?

How would you prefer a disabled actor to appear? Are you OK as long as it not mentioned??

Drwhattf · 25/11/2023 21:01

We love dr who, especially the chemistry between them. I love it because Donna is a normal looking feisty lady with character.

as for pronouns, why? why shoe horn this crap into a good old adventure?

We are currently desperately trying to persuade DD that she isn’t a boy, does not need to wear a binder or hate her body, doesn’t want to have a mastectomy and we are desperate to keep her away from ruining her health with testosterone- available not just after years of nhs waiting lists as everyone is told, but from a well known high street drug store for 18 quid a week, delivered to your home.

and then RT gets away with fucking advertising this dangerous utter nonesense - with a very attractive rose. Very different to the normal looking chubby, pasty trans kids round here. Especially the unfortunate girl who is now sporting a beard, and storing up god knows what problems. Testosterone is a fancy name for steroids - it’s not funny RT and it’s not responsible of you, BBC.

greengreengrass25 · 25/11/2023 21:04

Yes a bit of light relief

greengreengrass25 · 25/11/2023 21:04

I mean watching a fictional programme on tv not an agenda
