I didn't either. Good chance because I was completely distracted by trying to figure out Rose's aged. I presumed early 20s, then Donna mentioned homework then it only being 15 years. Confused.

I thought the episode was a big meh.

Other than making the point that our surroundings render us disabled (ie stairs to a spaceship) ?

How would you prefer a disabled actor to appear? Are you OK as long as it not mentioned??

Yeah, I think that's a good point, and how a lot of people think when it comes to so called "woke issues" - "they're thinking "course I'm alright with you, just don't make me think about it too hard, it makes me uncomfortable to think outside my privilege so you mentioning can't get up the staircase on the spaceship is "ramming it down our throats" 😢

But it was a genuinely dreadful episode. Donna's trans daughter looks 25 (only 20 irl apparently) and the intermissions for wokeosity and hugging even nauseated DD.

Hoping for better things in the next two.

This was the Sarah Jane episode. We now need Dr Who and Torchwood.

I thought it was great! Can’t wait for the others. For me the ‘binary’ referred back to Donna absorbing the tardis, she gets stuck in a loop and it’s the only thing to come out of her mouth. Rose is obviously a name in Donna’s subconscious so that’s why she called her daughter that. No idea why there’s so much hate here. Dr Who is a family show and is primarily to scare the shit out of the kids as well as being a bit of escapism.

Why are people saying Rose was 13? Not that she looked 15 either, but that does fit with timelines (I think)

Just I can't understand how some people can be fine with an alien with two hearts who can shape shift/regenerate but have a problem when they turn into a black man (Ncuti) a woman (Jodie) and Rose (trans)
Which people have had problems with all of them if ranting comments sections are anything to go by, whether it Twitter, FB, social media discussion boards .. if you don't have a problem with any of those then good for you.

Of course, some 20 year olds do look exceptionally young. Yasmin Finney, who played Rose, doesn’t though.

I’ve watched Dr Who since it first started. I can’t cope with it having a sodding agenda. Just please give me loads of time travelly running/Tardising around the galaxy, aliens etc. I don’t want non binary, lesbian, green lizard aliens. Just the green lizard alien is fine without needing to remind everyone about it’s preferred pronouns, sexual proclivity and how it is discriminated against for being green etc. If they are going to keep making a big deal about this I’m not watching. Have a female doctor, have a female Master/Mistress, have a gay green alien but just stop whanging on about it every two seconds. Right, rant over.

I dunno, should see some of the kids in my 15 year old's class - 6 foot with beards, some of them!

I really enjoyed it - the domestic house setting, funny scary alien, posh robots, Camden, nice cabbie husband - lots of links to classic doctor who. I thought daughter was about 16? Lovely hair. Not sure what acting people wanted it was just a few lines and here are my cuddly toys, hardly Chekhov

I quite liked the (brief) discussion with Donna and her Mum about whether commenting on Rose's looks was OK or not if it wasn't something they did pre-transition. It was an interesting comment about how we treat girls and boys differently.

I just hate it when characters race/sex/sexual preferences or gender opinions have to make up their whole fucking character. Like, stop it already.

Ironic that tired old 'men don't get it' misandry is the one thing they don't have an issue with.

This episode was awful. Picked up a bit in some ways near the end. I'll give the next one a shot but I'm not optimistic.

playing a completely different age is fairly common in TV and films though. The actor playing the 11 year old in The Railway Children was actually 20, Olivia Newton John was 28 when she filmed Grease (and the actor playing Rizzo was in her 30s IIRC). Shirley Henderson was 37 when she played the 14 year old Moaning Myrtle in the first Harry Potter film.
