I love David Tennant but haven't watched DW since Matt Smith. Can I start watching this series or do I need to catch up with what's happened in between?

I slightly also object to the appearance of a visibly disabled actor as being referred to as 'ticking a box'....

I was looking forward to this, but irritated within 5 minutes - it's almost predictable that the first new character would have to be a "trans school girl" played by a 20 year old biological male.

I get that Russell is gay and I get that representation and diversity is important but I think the constant front-and-centering of everything trans is going to backfire horribly on trans people, on gay people, and on progressive left-wing people.

Oh, and also on Doctor Who.

I couldn't agree more. How about having a butch 13 Yr old girl? We never see them.... let's start to show kids it's okay to be male/female and present however you like.

All I see and hear with Catherine Tate is her ‘Nan’ character! She’s even doing Nan’s voice!

I’m enjoying it in terms of story but if the moralising is going to continue like it has done the last couple of series I’m not sure it’s worth it. I want entertainment not politics in my Saturday night Doctor Who fix.

The pronouns stuff being crowbarred in just tells me they are carrying on with that lecturing tone. They could have just had a trans character and left the explaining well alone. Just told the story. But they didn’t.
