A cold??

Well, there had to be some excuse coming, didn't there?

JaneJeffer · 15/01/2024 02:08

Why are Stan and Adrian being referred to as "they"? Confused

They are a three times grand slam champion about Stan

And their opponent
They made the 4th round in 2022
They are the No. 20 seed

FUCK OFF

Ugh, Jane I saw the scores, but I'm glad I wasn't listening. It doesn't surprise me though.
If your name isn't Djok ( or Dick- and given half a chance, thry might even shoe horn Federer into the mix)they don't want to know.
Stan isn't just a 3 time slam champion, he's a former Australian open champion- and in the absence of Rafa, only 2 of those were left standing in the draw. The lack of respect is Angry

I am not able to watch at the moment since if I do, I will never get readyGrin.
I see Shapo lost - I'd almost forgotten all about him!

Raahh · 15/01/2024 07:35

And RBA is outSad, big fan of Ben, shame he had to beat Roberto.

Etcheverry winning in the match against Murray. Not surprised by that.

ChessieFL · 15/01/2024 07:52

It’s a shame about Andy. I don’t think he’ll be playing much longer (in general I mean - not just this match!) given he’s not getting results. I wonder if he’ll stick with it to Wimbledon and that will be it - retire on his home turf.

Raahh · 15/01/2024 08:03

Maybe Chessie- although, losing early at Wimbledon might not be the send off he wants- he may be better doing something slightly lower key- like Queen's.
Federer had the best end off, in the end. The last result didn't really matter. It wasn't that ort of event.
Had there been a big song and dance at Wimbledon, it might have been a bit different, after losing his last match.

I worry a bit about Rafa making RG his last event for the same reason. I'd rather have the memory of 14 perfect finals (ignore his losses to DjokGrin).
A Spanish farewell may be better, a knees up with Goody in Barcelona Grin.

Raahh · 15/01/2024 08:07

I'm starting to wonder how many players we might not see at next year's AO- Stan, maybe, possibly Murray or even RBA- Monfils? A year is a long time in tennis and a lot can happen. I wonder if Gael will retire in Paris? He dropped some retirement hints, but then aid he would play til he was 40. Grin

IceandIndigo · 15/01/2024 08:30

It’s got to the point where I’m almost glad to see Andy losing in straights, at least save us all the agony of another five set heartbreaker Confused

Raahh · 15/01/2024 08:47

Finally getting the chance to sit down and watch- have walk the dog, can't feel my toes and my thumb might fall off.

Feel like I haven't seen Milos play for ages. Come on Milos!

Raahh · 15/01/2024 08:51

Ons has just won the first set in her match - it would be lovely if she could win a slam this year. Her opponent has an odd serve.

ChessieFL · 15/01/2024 08:52

Yes, it must be tricky trying to make the decision of when to retire. Ash Barty probably had the right idea, retiring straight after winning her home slam - but then will she regret retiring so early later in life? I’m sure she could have achieved lots more (although I know she had other reasons for retiring).

With Andy I was thinking more that if it’s clear he’s going to keep losing in early rounds, he could retire at Wimbledon accepting that it would happen in round 1 or 2 so not a disappointment if you see what I mean? Not like Federer whose last loss at Wimbledon was a bit of a shock.

IceandIndigo · 15/01/2024 08:54

I imagine ADM will have wished for an easier first round opponent.

Raahh · 15/01/2024 09:11

Oh Milos!

Raahh · 15/01/2024 09:11

Oh- that was a gift.

Raahh · 15/01/2024 09:16

First set Milos - yay!

IceandIndigo · 15/01/2024 09:23

Ons is through in straights.

Fizzywinegum · 15/01/2024 09:30

I’m watching Milos - he seems to have abandoned his hippy hairstyle (which I never thought really suited him!)

I can’t really imagine Andy going on for much longer - it can’t be much fun travelling round the world just to lose in the first round but yes at least he didn’t put everyone (and himself) through five sets of torture

I’m also worried about Rafa’s potential retirement at RG Raahh - I was also wondering if I could get tickets - it could be my last chance to see Rafa (knowing my luck I’d end up seeing Djok!)

The Morrisons delivery person just tried to give us next door’s shopping - DS1 was merrily putting it away until I intervened! (Although he said he was surprised that I’d ordered weird stuff like butternut squash Grin)

Raahh · 15/01/2024 09:34

Fizzy Grin Putting away someone else's delivery is exactly one one of mine would do-and we don't even get shopping delivered!
Grin

Milos seems to be favouring something in the middle of his slicked back 'do' of old (that I never liked)and his natural /natural hair do. But no more Wreck-it Ralph.

Still seems to struggle to find shorts the right length Grin

Fizzywinegum · 15/01/2024 09:37

Yes the shorts are still very short Grin

Domi and Felix are just starting - who knows how that match will go Sad

Raahh · 15/01/2024 09:47

Fizzy it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. Ought to be Felix- but you never can tell.

Raahh · 15/01/2024 09:49

Milos may have won the first set, but I think he is struggling, and got lucky with some errors from Alex. I'd love to see him win this though- but I think Alex will play himself into the match.

Raahh · 15/01/2024 09:50

Quick look at the other match- ominous strapping on Felix AA's knee- and Domi just grimaced- neither look very happy !

Raahh · 15/01/2024 10:12

Oh dear- had a feeling Milos was struggling- he had a MTO in the first set.

Raahh · 15/01/2024 10:12

His wife looks really upset too.

Fizzywinegum · 15/01/2024 10:13

Oh dear - poor Milos Sad - such a shame for him
