Thread to mark the inevitable hype and build up to the 60th anniversary of Children's Programme Doctor Who*. (Nov 23rd 2023)

Will the new lad turn up? Will it be rubbish? Is Tom Baker in it with cameo? Or grumpy Christopher Eccleston?
Soz if this has already started elsewhere..I looked but found related threads

Anyway I'm sort of looking forward to David Tennant he wasn't my favourite doctor but still worth a watch

Ooh they were both super good storylines.
completely agree…. the writing of the JW era was atrocious. The Doctor should be the smartest person in the room and a bit arrogant about that fact. Basically the Doctor fits my attraction profile perfectly no matter his appearance because I have a thing for really smart, arrogant men. So I was prepared for Jodie Whitaker to challenge my firmly established heterosexuality. Instead the character was needy and constantly doubting herself. It made me so angry that they would change the Doctor just because she was a woman.
I’m also not keen on shoe horning romance into it. And I loved Donna- ( and Missy) so good to see women with character and strength.
why wasn’t someone like missy the doctor?!

Totally agree. Its not like they cant write strong female characters. There have been so many of them in the show. Even Jo Martin was a better character as The Doctor and she was only in it for about 20 minutes! I felt a bit sorry for JW. I don't think shes an amazing actress, she's good enough ( although I know others agree) and without a strong script, she just didn't have the gravitas to be the lead. Smith, Tennant and Capaldi all carried some atrocious writing just through sheer screen presence. Maybe it was because they changed the character so much into a scatty, simpering woman rather than a strong powerful woman.

Aw bless Julian Bleach.
I am very excited fir Saturday.
Love DT and CT, especially as Dr Donna.
Adore Ncuti in Sex Education and he looks fly in the 6os get up promo shots.
He's a cutie for sure, but has one thing even better and that's charisma, the camera loves him.

Lalgarh · 23/11/2023 20:01

Watching The Daleks, IN COLOUR! on bbc4.

bit rubbish colour looking like AI was involved in the colouring. Blonde space aliens speaking like they just graduated from RADA. Slightly hallucinogenic

So it's not too dark then @Worriedkittycat ?

I wouldn't say so. There's the odd episode that can be a bit scary, but they're rare!

_

I was terrified of Dr Who when I was young!!! In the '70s, didn't stop me me watching them though!

"Are you my mummy?"

'Are you my mummy?' is my ringtone for when my DC call me 😆

LilacpointMummy · 25/11/2023 12:36

Can't wait for tonight's episode!

SequinsandStiIettos · 25/11/2023 18:09

Davros · 25/11/2023 18:36

God, it's marvellous

SequinsandStiIettos · 25/11/2023 19:20

the80sweregreat · 25/11/2023 19:30

A new tardis !

SoupDragon · 25/11/2023 19:30

Well, that proves that both the writing and the acting in the last series was shit!

Loved it.

i believe in DT's doctor in a way I never did with JW.

Lalgarh · 25/11/2023 21:30

My God!

Good old channel 5 for their excellent muck raking on Children's programme doctor who.

Naked Colin Baker!

The deranged fandom !
John Nathan Turner the sexual predator!

The horrendous sexism!

Round 2 tonight. Do we have the energy

Russell T Davies the reinstated showrunner says he's all about making children's programme Doctor Who the sort of prog non nerds could watch, not the obsessive fan nerds who've sustained and uh, regenerated it.

So. Has it brought in any new fans?
