Anyone else watched it yet?

I Watched this all yesterday (admittedly whilst doing some other domestic stuff so basically listened to it 😂) but found it to be really quite compelling. Thought Coleen Rooney came across really well (was never a fan tbh) but she was open and balanced about everything that had happened to the point of being quite gracious.

Rebekah Vardy on the other hand… after listening to the lawyers discuss the tactics deployed by her team and the journalists involved , just wow. And the denying of being the leak even when faced with undeniable proof was just both breathtakingly stupid and delusional in equal measures. I cannot understand why Jamie Vardy didn’t stop the whole thing in the face of the lawyers first opinion and after disclosure? £3m his wife wasted and as Coleen states she hasn’t been paid her awarded legal costs of £1.8m it does appear that maybe it was money that they didn’t have to lose. Possibly the greatest own goal of all time.

I was astonished RV’s solicitors weren’t reprimanded or disbarred for their behaviour- you cannot withhold evidence or turn a blind eye to its destruction. Appalling behaviour and the fact there were no consequences for them sends a poor message about enforcement of rules and standards.

@HermioneWeasley lawyers can only act upon what they actually know. As long as someone doesn’t say ‘I did it’ they have the right to a defence and access to a defence lawyer if it is a public trial. Despite their suspicions they can only act upon what they know to be the case. In this situation where the phone rather conveniently ended up in Davy Jones’ locker, they have to believe that this was not done on purpose. The trial was a a civil not public prosecution, and thus if someone is stupid enough to keep throwing good money after bad, the choice is to hold your nose and take the cash I guess. In the end, the choice is take the money and pray your professional reputation doesn’t suffer if you lose. Let’s not forget that at one point it was clear that CR might not win. Is it right that a massive narcissist was allowed to keep pursuing something that is clearly not true? No, but that’s the issue with cases like this.

It @Netaporter they submitted redacted documents claiming the redacted elements weren’t relevant to the case when they absolutely were

LadyBird1973 · 27/11/2023 22:57

I'd imagine they rue the day they agreed to take on RV's case. I don't think it's done their reputation much good.
