Loved it, binged it this weekend. Loved all the Poe references and the poetry in the final episode.
had to go and remind myself of Vincent Price in The Pit and the Pendulum after, that movie terrified me when I was a teen!

Hang on in there @Pootle40 , it gets much better. We felt the same as you but persisted.

I watched. Enjoyed spotting the Poe references (was a big fan as a teenager, need to reread), but overall, found it a bit... I don't know, a bit flashy and campy? I prefer Midnight Mass and Hill House, more introspective and thoughtful and chilling.

I like the recurring ensemble cast as a concept.

I have a few questions too, if we decide we can discuss the whole series.

I thought it was okay. Not great. No way as good as Hill House. I binged it so something kept my interest but ultimately it was a bit disappointing.

Agree with this! I was really disappointed.

Hoping it's ok to put this and no one has said we can't discuss the ending.

When Verna is talking to Lenore, she tells her her mum inherits a sizable fund from the Usher family which she uses to do a lot of good and goes on to save a lot of lives.

Later on in the last episode she says that Juno gets all the cash.

Was this a mistake/oversight or was Verna lying to Lenore to make her feel better before killing her? I like to think Morelle did get some of the money and went on to do some good.

Poor Lenore, I cried at that.

Doyoumind · 02/11/2023 20:59

Durham I don't remember the details but could there not have been a trust fund in place for Leonore that went to her mother, as well as anything that came to her through her husband's death that was already in his name? Everything else went to Juno? Can't both be true?

DurhamDurham · 03/11/2023 08:56

@Doyoumind hopefully there was at trust fund. It just got me thinking because Verna was very clear that Juno got every cent of the family money.
I like overthinking Grin

We’re watching it now, it just remind me of Lemony Snicket, the characters are so overacted and it seems just, I don’t know, silly? Taking itself too seriously? I don’t mind it, I’m quite enjoying it but I loved Hill House and also Bly Manor but I love a good ghost story. Didn’t love Midnight Mass and I hoped Midnight Club would have a big twist like they were already dead and in a kind of purgatory, waiting room between worlds or something.

Wasitalwaysgoingtobelikethis · 11/11/2023 20:51

I actually thought it was something to do with Usher the singer 😂😂😂

Doingtheboxerbeat · 18/12/2023 17:20

This is my favourite of Mike Flanagans, that I started to watch it again 😳. It's actually better the second time around, because, I was so confused about who the main characters children were .

I also love how he uses the same actors , especially the younger more unknown ones - like 3 of the young characters were in The midnight club and I seriously had never seen them before.

Morelle would have got all Frederick’s money and assets. Juno would have inherited whatever Roderick had left and whatever she could squeeze out of the ashes of the company.
