Anyone watching?

I thought it started slowly, showed some promise in the middle (although I don’t understand all the hype online about people not being able to sleep) and was boring at the end. The last episode just felt like a clumsy attempt to close it all down.

I suspect if you’ve read a lot of Edgar Allan Poe it might have been more interesting but without that context I found it disappointing after the other series (apart from midnight club). I feel a bit cheated.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 22/10/2023 20:50

Yay the cat lived!

On episode 5 so far..its different to his other series. Definitely less heartfelt 😂but intresting to see how it all links together..assuming it does in the end!

ellebelli · 22/10/2023 22:48

I think it's shit!

Doyoumind · 22/10/2023 22:56

I thought it was okay. Not great. No way as good as Hill House. I binged it so something kept my interest but ultimately it was a bit disappointing.

DurhamDurham · 23/10/2023 08:42

Can I ask a question about the last episode or is this a no spoiler conversation?

Something contradictory about the ending compared to what Verna said earlier in the episode.

Rollergirl11 · 23/10/2023 15:39

Yes I have a question about one of the characters too.

youngestisapsycho · 25/10/2023 15:43

Just finished… really enjoyed it.
Is it described as horror? It isn’t, and nothing scary either.

youngestisapsycho · 25/10/2023 15:44

Can we discuss all episodes now? Maybe have ‘spoilers’ put in the title?

RosaMoline · 25/10/2023 15:47

Gave up after two episodes.
Was struggling to remember who was who, and found all the characters unlikeable. Didn’t care for Hill House, Bly Manor or Midnight Mass either. All style and no substance in my opinion. American Horror Story it ‘ain’t.

Pebble21uk · 25/10/2023 17:25

I'd say it's more Gothic Melodrama than horror. I enjoyed it... a morality tale for our times! Not as good as Hill House or Bly Manor, but still enjoyed it. Some of the ways the siblings met their fates was also quite predictable. I've not seen Midnight Mass... where would people put that in the pecking order?

GalileoHumpkins · 25/10/2023 18:04

I enjoyed it overall but the monologuing got really boring.

looking4pup · 26/10/2023 10:04

How do we ask for the tithe to include spoilers?

I didn't think the @mnhq worked?

Do I report it?

Is it actually the original Poe stories?

I would say the order is;
The haunting of hill house(fabulous and creepy, though playing spot the ghosts distracted me at times)
Midnight Mass(abit to much monologue scenes)
Bly Manor (terrible accents and a bit naff in places)
And I would put the midnight club and this together as I didn't finish either, though this is more "grown up" than the midnight club...but I used to love Christopher pike books as a teen so dis enjoy some elements of it but it became very samey so quit around the 4th episode I think.
I managed two of this..bored and just didn't like the characters or the style of it.

Chrysanthemum5 · 26/10/2023 10:48

Just finished and I really enjoyed it. The only distracting thing was that the way Madelaine spoke and dressed reminded me very much of Moira Rose from Schitts Creek

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/10/2023 10:48

Finished it. Won’t offer any spoilers 😁

yeekls · 26/10/2023 10:51

For me it is:

Hill House
Bly Manor (I thought it was a beautiful story and I Shall Believe at the end was genius)
Fall of House of Usher
Midnight Mass (it's been a while since I watched this one and I have only watched the once, but don't remember getting that "must sit and watch the next" as much as I did with FOHOU.
Midnight Club (this was just meh for me, didn't have the same vibe as the others).

MadeOfAllWork · 26/10/2023 10:07

No, more an updating of them to the 21st century. But it is pretty obvious to work out which ones they are even if you don't look at the titles.

Haha at one point I WAS sure it had to be her and googled.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 26/10/2023 22:24

Finished it..not as gripping as his other stuff but watchable. Different I guess.

My order...
Hill House. Was gripped from the start.

Midnight Mass..loved the ending..and majority of the rest as well. Bit monologuey in parts though

Bly Manor. Accents took some getting used to but again the ending!

This one

Midnight club. Didnt realise was meant to be more then one series...and then got cancelled.

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/10/2023 22:27

(Am I the only one who got halfway through Midnight Mass during lockdown when I finally realised he was “Elliot”? Probably 😁

Rollergirl11 · 27/10/2023 09:31

Still totally bemused by Madeline taking off her wig to reveal nicer hair underneath! What was all that about?!

My order is the same @LetsGoFlyAKiteee. For me Hill House remains one of the most beautiful perfect series on TV. Everything that has come after has failed to come close. Bly Manor was preposterous with poor acting and even worse accents. Midnight Mass was pretty alright actually. It started really slowly and got better with each episode. Midnight Gang I didn’t bother past the 2nd episode; absolute drivel. This had good moments but still meh.

No...I somehow missed the whole reveal 😂took a while after for it to click why everyone was making such a big fuss

Edit..oh wait completely read that wrong!

IveHadItUpToHere · 28/10/2023 17:57

Finally finished it. I enjoyed it and I'm sad it's the final one in the series.

Pootle40 · 29/10/2023 21:33

Gave up. Half way through episode 2. Boring as all hell and just vulgar.
