Anyone watching?

I forget what number episode I'm on, we've just watched the "Telltale Heart" inspired episode which I really enjoyed.

I am enjoying it a lot, I was quite instantly hooked though which a lot of people on here don't seem to have been. I did also prefer haunting of Bly Manor to Hill House so perhaps I've just got bad taste.

Elmo230885 · 16/10/2023 19:09

Loving it.

funbags3 · 16/10/2023 19:11

Absolutely loved it. Binged binge-watched in two days.
This was just as good as The Haunting of Hill House, imo.

Plankingplanks · 16/10/2023 19:12

It was OK. The ending was all a bit unremarkable and stupid in my opinion.

OvaHere · 16/10/2023 19:14

Was totally hooked on this despite the gore. Very bingeworthy series. Enjoyed Poe spotting.

ISaySteadyOn · 16/10/2023 19:20

I'm really enjoying it. To make it last longer, I am not allowing myself to watch each episode until I have read the short story that gives its title. They are amazing stories. Mr Poe was a very good writer.

AlinaSquareQueen · 16/10/2023 19:59

I’m really enjoying this - I’ve been binge-watching all day. I also loved all of Mike Flanagan’s previous TV shows and films.

However, as PPs have said, I don’t particularly like it when many of the same actors are used. American Horror story was similar, and I only got to the end of S2 of that. Admittedly, Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and others, are great actors but I would rather someone fresh play a new character.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 16/10/2023 20:25

Just finished this, was really good!

A few proper jump scares and a good enough story to keep it interesting.

That is such a fantastic idea!

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 16/10/2023 21:18

The Pale Blue Eye (I think it’s on Netflix) is based on Poe’s short career as a Cadet, combined with a horror storyline. It’s not bad at all.

Coldbit · 17/10/2023 19:44

I've just finished it. I really enjoyed it and I'm not usually a horror fan. (Had to google to double check that it was indeed Mark Hamill as the lawyer - he's really good). I'm now in need of something else to binge watch if anyone has a recommendation

sekift · 17/10/2023 19:48

Loved it, I've loved all Mike Flanagan's series so far. Love the actors he uses too.

anon0007 · 15/10/2023 20:35

I started watching it but lost interest half way through episode 2. Should I keep watching?

Same. DH and I thought it was gross.

looking4pup · 18/10/2023 19:01

I've not seen this yet. I didn't realise it was a horror. Sounds interesting.

The name comes from an old short story by Edgar Allan Poe. I liked it. I thought it was a decent modern tragedy.

looking4pup · 20/10/2023 14:32

I've just finished episode 2. Can't say I'm really into it. It must get better if you've all enjoyed it?

Severalreasons · 20/10/2023 14:35

I've just finished watching it and it definitely gets better with each episode.
I admit until about episode 4 or 5 I was forcing myself to carry on watching as I usually love Mike Flanagans stuff but the last few eps are far more interesting and I'm glad I stuck with it.
Not a patch on Hill House though.

BabyStopCryin · 20/10/2023 14:37

I didn’t get through the first episode.

looking4pup · 20/10/2023 14:40

The really pretty one with the grey hair is married to the director? I don't see them together at all.

I remember getting the book of EAP's short stories out of the library when I was about 13. Can't recall any sexy bits.

sekift · 20/10/2023 14:43

@thenightsky you mean there wasn't a Victorian orgy?!

I was 13 so maybe it was worded in such a way I didn't notice it was an orgy.

ISaySteadyOn · 20/10/2023 18:26

The Masque of the Red Death mentions wantonness. I think that's the orgy part there.

VisaWoes · 20/10/2023 19:06

Just finished episode 2, can’t say I’m hooked yet.

looking4pup · 21/10/2023 00:46

Just finished it all.
