Todays equivalent of The Borrowers?

Now the evenings are getting dark and stormy - we fancy snuggling up and watching a TV series together with DC 9 and 10 before bed.

A Series Of Unfortunate Events is perfect however the kids don't like watching it before bed.

What else is similar and suitable?

We have Netflix, Amazon Prime (although tempted to cancel!) and Disney +

My favourite memory from childhood is watching The Borrowers, 5 Children and IT and similar with my Grandma under blankets on a weekend night. I loved that feeling.

Anne with an E on Netflix
Just add Magic on Prime
Mako mermaids/H2O on Netflix

I'm guessing you've watched the actual Borrowers with them?

Once Upon A Time
Shoebox Zoo
Anne With An E

Do you also have iPlayer?
A lot of the CBBC stuff is good (Malory Towers, Worst Witch etc).

The original borrowers TV series is on YouTube, I've watched it with my DD (and couldn't believe how dated it was 🤣)

Shocked that I've totally missed Anne with an E on Netflix! Looks perfect! Thanks all.

I didn't even think of iPlayer. (I love Worst Witch 😂)

They're currently watching the original Mr Bean and laughing SO much. It's quite cringe

We loved the Durrels when my kids were that age. Great family viewing.

There was a brilliant BBC Chronicles of Narnia around the same time as The Borrowers which is available on Amazon. I used to love watching it on a Sunday evening

Fistralstorm · 25/09/2023 20:42

Love The Durrels @guildingthelily - I recommend all their books too. Even Margo wrote one called "Whatever Happened to Margo?"

@SydneyCarton oh yes loved thst one too!

Well we've just watched a Just William that we found on CBBC. His Dark Materials looks epic too! Thank you @Needmorelego 😊

I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for (have never seen The Borrowers), but I watched Ghosts on iPlayer with similar aged DC and we all absolutely love it! Safe to say I enjoy it even more than the children. It was recommended on a similar MN thread. Great family viewing. I'm very excited that a new series starts in a few weeks!

Yes currently watching ghosts with 9yo DD. She also liked annedroids on prime.

We also watch all the old series, so the bbc narnias, phoenix and carpet, famous five etc. Some were on britbox, others we bought dvds at car boot sales.
